Balika Vadhu or Barrister Babu, have that story line. Both based on a different era. We have a show based on 2021 which is more regressive and toxic than these shows from 1950s.👏
Ghum cannot be compared with this show . I am talking about these shows wrt to Pahredar Pita show which was based on child marriage. The show was pulled off air before they could send a social message whereas other shows on the same subject ran for years. The message was shown at the end of the serial but the child abuse was normalized by not punishing the Dadi and both parents for supporting child marriage. I believe there was no balance but Dadi was whitewashed by not punishing get for tortuting the round child by locking her in dark roomOriginally posted by: KJSairat
Showing child marriage is not wrong, but normalising, not calling it out is and I feel barrister babu did good job at it. Balika Vadu, I feel they handled it much better than Ghum has. It wwasn't sickening like this, there was a balance.
I have submitted complaint. Nothing expecting much but just done my part.
Child Marriage was not normalized in BV, the whole plot was about its aftereffects , about how it is not a good practice and is still being followed, the show showed its repercussions in protagonists life and what it does to a family. It showed a teenager getting pregnant and what she had to go through as a widow who did not even have her gauna. It addressed a lot of social issues. Agree about Dadi getting scott free. Ghum sustains on abuse.

@ 404_NotFound See I agree with what you say, but I know ITV shows and I know there will be some kind of regressiveness, 💯 but most of them also make some valid points. Ghum failed miserably in this aspect, social message wise, they've stooped lower than these ITV shows. Not saying that those were perfect shows.
Agreeing with Asmi
When people like Dadi are Scott free then how can we say the abuse was not normalized? The real message would be to punish them. Forget child marriage, even Gehna was made to stay with Basant though he raped her on her wedding night and there was a huge gap difference. How is abuse not normalized?

If I'm not wrong, they ended each episode with a social message and they did call it out there. They didn't call it out in the show itself, because first of all it's how it happens in real too and second it's ITV show. Yes abuse was very much normalised at times, but by showing those messages at the end, they did call it out atleast. But my point was that Ghum doesn't call out anything!! But lets agree to dissagree!
Again I am not saying Ghum is right but my point is showing the message, in the end, is not giving a social message. The real message is when they show people facing consequences for their action. Since Ghum hasn't ended if they show the message, in the end, will that be sufficient?Originally posted by: KJSairat

That's what it is. Ghum does not call out anything. It's possible to even call out wrong doings through powerful scenes and dialogues. That is also seriously lacking.
