Films that would be hard to release amidst the political climate of the country today, strictly from the 2010-2019 decade.

1) My Name Is Khan (2010)

Oh Man! BJP bots would've cancelled this film right from the trailers itself, for obvious reasons.🤪

2) Patiala House (2011)

Akshay playing an England Cricketer, and promoting Cricket AGAINST INDIA?. 🤓I don't think pseudo-nationalists in our country would've digested this film, had it been released now.

Not that it was blockbuster even in 2011.😆

3) Haider (2014)

Despite being an adaption of Shakespare's Hamelt, I am sure some bigots would've started boycotting this film for promoting and justifying terrorism. Glad the film was released in 2014.

4) Bajrangi Bhaijan (2015)

A bit confused about this one. Its one of favorite films in the last decade.
But not sure how Bhakts would've handled this film. I can imagine the criticism around showing why regular Indians were shown in bad light (Kareena's father, red light area people etc etc) while Pakistanis were shown as quite accepting and supportive of Pawan.

5) Judwaa 2 (2017)

Varun is lucky to have got this made in 2017. With so much heated debate around nepotism and everything today, I doubt this film would've made so much money if it were to release in 2021. There was literally nothing good about this film, and it was almost as bad as Coolie No. 1.🤢 Wonder how it became a blockbuster 4 years ago.🤔

What do you think? What other films are there, that would be hard to get released today?

I disagree about My Name is Khan. The movie was more about Islamophobia in America after 9/11 terror attacks. Ain't got much to do with BJP.

One film that would have been surrounded with controversy and would have suffered the most would have been Kai Po Che. Glad it released before 2014.

First of all, MNIK had the favorite punching bags of BJP bigots/psuedo nationalists --> SRK and KJo.

I know that Islamphobia in US after 911 had nothing to do with BJP... but if MNIK were to release NOW, BJP bigots would've certainly drag Indian politics, Pakistan terrorism, Kashmir issue etc etc into to.

Not to mention they would've boycotted the film for always favoring Muslims over other religions etc etc
I agree about Kai Po Che though!👍🏼 Bang On Example! How did I miss that?😆

All of them would have released and done well accordingly.

Just because we have twitter bigots and trolls trolling and few publicity hungry political and fringe groups crying around, wouldn't mean that general public would have cared much about it.

If we go by twitter trends, than the likes of Mission Mangal, Article 15 and so on would have flopped in the last normal year.

And we still don't know how actually Cookie No.1, Radhe, Laxmi and so on would have done, if theaters would have actually opened because remember one thing, most of the people who criticise and troll movies in social media, haven't actually watched the movie, and are just parroting what someone else have said. If a Patal Lok or Sacred Games can be hit in social media, two movies which were overtly Hindu bashing and Muslim victimization, than we are just worrying for something which doesn't exist in general.

The list would be endless. Anything from OMG, PK(religious sentiments) to Jodha Akbar(love jihad). I'm not sure Kesari would release without a controversy after the farmers protest. Hell, I'm shocked a LoveYatri releases without much hoopla considering the play on words there.

But to be fair this has been happening forever, see Ram Leela etc. Its just that the radical religious organizations are empowered now, rather than pushed to the side. And frankly, Bollywood loves it. Its by design. They get publicity worth crores for a little headache.

The ruling parties in India have always kept an iron hand on freedom of expression of the artists. Only difference is before it was about being pseudo secular and now it is about Hindutva - before it used to be done subtly , now they are becoming more and more aggressive and with the overwhelming presence of the Social Media things it’s much more easy to manipulate now than ever before.

Eh, I dont know about that. Sure there could've been an outcry from certain groups but I think all of those movies would've still released and performed well. Esp Bajrangi and Haider.
