Saying that they should have the story and contract cleared beforehand. this idea that a serial can run 1000 episodes should not be propagated. Serials should be shot as seasons and each season should have an adequate ending so that even if the channel decides to close it. it should do it in a way that fans are not hanged in the middle and the story has a logical ending.

I agree most of the hindi channels does it - but my experience is that Colors treats their shows the worst. At the end of the day it is a business , I get that. But giving a show a notice in advance doesn't hurt them. Voot could have said that we are only gonna give you 100 episodes in the beginning, then it would be a different story.

I have been saying this for over a decade that Indian TV have to change their pattern of making TV-shows. Continuously shooting for years is not good for the show and for the team. They should look into how Hollywood series work (seasons) or make finite shows. Let the makers tell their story and end it when they are done. Reporters on Sony TV is the best example. They knew how long it's gonna run and they had written every episode from start to end (before they started to shoot) - Sony didn't care much about TRP. Although the show got an extension as it was doing well. But the team only extended few weeks - and they didn't wanted to ruin the story. The makers needs to have a vision and the channels need to give the shows the freedom to tell their story in their way and not based on TRP. Even if the show only had 70 episodes and all of those episodes are masterpieces - then it's a good investment for all parts.

This can only work if their change the pattern of iTV.

Reporters was the remake of the original tv series newsroom, so they had to do it the way it was done n the original series, for prisoners of war and other Kya Kasoor Amaal ka and Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara they did the same as those were finite series in their original form. but when it comes to any original India show, they never ever do it. they keep dragging it till the very end the audience itself doesn't give up.

I just want original Indian tv shows to also have the guts to do the same. in web series, we do that all the time. tvf launched pitcher in 2015 and still, they didn't come up with season two as they know for the story is way way more important than just pleasing the audience demand for the next season. they will come back once they have a better story than what they have already shown. this kind of story-driven attitude is required in the Indian tv industry if they want to really survive.

@bold I totally agree with you that the pattern of ITV needs to be revamped. I mean till how long will they go on with these never ending saas-bahu dramas. There is so much wrong with the Indian telly at the moment yaar. Firstly, they arefeeding into years-long misogyny indirectly and directly; secondly, by following a set trend for so many years they are training the Indian mindset in just one direction; and thirdly they are not giving producers and makers enough leeway to play with their creativities fully. Because all this shows that start with very good storylines and concepts lose their essence midway.

Why can't India follow what is being done in Pakistan. A drama comes for a certain number of episodes once a week and ends in a couple of months. Like this the actors get to play other roles too and their talent isn't limited and the concept of the drama isn't lost in between either. Or what about how it is done in the US, where all the shows are seasonal.

we are losing on to so much audience because our content is extremely toxic and stupid. look at Korean Turkish and Pakistani drama they are gaining worldwide popularity and creating a good image of their countries. why can't Indians do the same. are we not good storytellers I refuse to believe that. We have created the world's best epics but now the only thing tv industry wants is a quick buck they don't want to hire talented writers as they have to pay for them and their profit margins will go down. they just want to feed us garbage and make a quick buck. they really need to understand that we are not living under stone now. if we will not get good content we will move to either another medium or another source. which most youngsters these days are doing.
