I think this is bigger than just that confidence. It’s a class barrier in her eyes, something she’s been forced to listen to since childhood. The shehri babu left her mother behind. And then ever since she had to live in the Ts as their help. Anu since the very beginning trying to incorporate in her mind she’s beneath Malini because of her status and now the Ts distancing themselves from her. All of these have led to these doubts in her mind which is why she was ready to live with only her rishta but is having fears of it coming out in front of everyone thinking she’ll never be as good as Malini for the family.

I feel like Adi and imlie have their conversations but there’s a lack of clarity in them as of now, thinking it’s about her acceptance of him when it’s actually about her acceptance of herself. Something they’re both unaware of yet. I don’t think telling her ke hum sirf ache dost hai etc will work, there has to be an explanation and assurance she didn’t come in between and about her low esteem and self worth. Which adi did contribute to, let’s not forget for months she saw him with malini, we saw how empty of a relationship it was and how superficial, from the character’s pov she saw lovey dovey moments and chandan and dhool comparisons and constant reminders never can take malini’s place. More than any shak on his love, it’s contributed to a low self worth still being given fire to by the Ts after being beaten down by Anu previously. That’s what needs to be confronted, but she herself is unaware of it right now.

The main problem here is the writers being unable to give a balanced ss to all, there’s always focus on one’s arc to be completed while other is put on hold. Adi’s has went so much forward while imlie’s feelings were kept on hold, little ss or introspection for her, which is why many are also feeling frustrated with imlie because the relationship can move forward but technically it still can’t cause imlie’s arc just started. This is something they needed to take along with adi’s redemption arc and even before (the torture weeks) but they decided to put her on hold and make her a puppet with her strings attached to didi.

They’re actually not only not able to focus on two characters at a time but two aspects of a story too. With focus on her insecurities now, her and adi’s relationship dynamic is on hold (when both can be taken forward together) she hasn’t felt any reaction towards his feelings since the newspaper article till yesterday’s episode. Wrt to this aspect, the strings of this puppet are attached to didi ab tak. She’s the lead but she’s only allowed certain points in the story, according to when it is convenient, when her feelings and turmoils are addressed. Same thing for other characters shown addressed throughout the story. I mean think about it, didi has had more moments of introspection (no matter how useless) and focus on her feelings, than imlie has.
