That evening in lala land
“Farhad, kya nam bola… kaun wait kar raha hai?” He asked not even looking up from the screen.
“Some Maya Mehrotra is here from Fashion & the City… she says her important ramp show has been delayed for three weeks now due to a delay in delivery of some exclusive jewelry sets,” Farhad told him about this gorgeous but hard-headed woman he had told to wait in the waiting lounge.
“ye sab mai dekhta hai, Farhad…?” he asked his handyman man still busy observing the intricate platinum set that was about to be delivered to one of their important clients.
“Nahi Anna, Raman Shetty is the manager of the department… but Anna…
“to Shetty ko bol jake mile is Mahamaya se, mai busy hai… aur use bol mujhe milne ko appointment banana padta.” the familiar arrogance dripped from his demeanor and he dismissed Farhad.
"achha aata hai." he muttered but till then Farhad has left the cabin.
“ya to safed kapde vali aaj mar dalegi ya Anna …Ya Allah, kya musibat hai?” muttering to himself he walked to the lounge area and the beauty wrapped in white looked up from her phone.
Her eyes were so expressive but at this very moment she looked kind and if Farhad was right he noticed a small smile on her face.
“ I am so sorry Ma’am, my boss is busy right now… I’ll call the department manager and he will have a better idea about why the delay was made,” Farhad told her humbly.
“I think your boss is forgetting I am one of your biggest collaboration partners in recent months… I didn’t expect it from Mr. Rao.” She was thoroughly professional and her words and tone suggested the same.
“Please wait for a while Ma’am, Anna..I mean my boss would be free in 20 minutes…I’ll tell him it's urgent.” Farhad tried to clear the mess Raghav had already created.
“ your name…” she asked looking into his eyes and there was something that has changed in her dark eyes, the way those black orbs smirked, spread a deadly calm around her.
“Farhad …” he answered humbly.
“so Mr. Farhad, convey my message to your boss…I mean to your Anna…
“ Jinhe dusro ke waqt ki parvah nahi
Maya ko unke, sath ki Parvah nahi…”
With that, she put on her glares and with the attitude of a tigress took her bag from the lounge table and made her way to the exit.
She was about to take the turn of the corridor when someone collided with her from the opposite side.
“Nuvvu chudallera?” the person muttered angrily and took a few steps back rubbing his chin. (can’t you see?)
“what…” Maya was surprised at the audacity of the man, he was not seeing in front of him and now muttering something in some unknown language.
“Excuse me… it was your fault,” she told the man who bent to get his phone that had fallen down.
“mere hi office me khada hoke mere ko hi sunata hai, samjhata kya… tum?” he was surprised to see the lady after months of that evening they spent together.
“Oh, so you are the Raghav Rao… didn’t know men change color when alcohol is on the menu.” suddenly her words turned venomous and Farhad was puzzled on this.
“Farhad,” he called him and gestured to leave them alone.
“So Miss Maya Mehrotra… I heard there was some delay to your delivery.” he locked his arms in front of him.
“if I want I’ll cancel the contract this very moment seeing how much of a big help you were that night but let's say I want to hear your side of the story … just to return the favor you did to me that night,” she told him smirking in the most devilish way someone as beautiful as she would.
“There is no story and I don’t know about the department but now when the boss of Fashion and city has come here, I’ll have to take a few actions.” with that he dialed the number.
“Farhad…Shetty ni lōpaliki pampaṇḍi.” he cut the call and smiled at her. (send Shetty inside).
“so Miss Maya, since you are our business partner… please let me take you to my office…also, what would you like to take?” he acted gently.
“i wish if you were this considerate that night, I might have married you next morning Mr. Rao.” she mocked him but followed him to the office.
Flashback ~ ~
He could not believe some ordinary, saree seller had slapped him on the road in front of all those people… it angered him how he could not do anything to teach her a lesson since his own mother warned him.
The alcohol was going above his threshold limit but he didn’t care, he wanted to forget this day but the bold black eyes who were not an ounce afraid of him kept revolving around him.
“one should not let himself drown after the deeds of others…” a sultry and husky voice told him and he turned to take a look at the person.
In a shimmery white dress was a diva with her shoulder-length hairs swaying gently around her.
“bahut lecture suna hai ab aur nahi hone ka…” he shut her brutally and resumed taking small sips of his drink.
“okay… for the first step, pour out whatever you want to say, I’ll just hear with no judgments, no reaction at all,” she told him as the bartender poured her colorful cocktail.
With a smile, she thanked him and turned totally towards him.
“so lets start.” she said and he could hear a cute girl in front of him.
“tum koi baba hai jo mera dukh dard door kar dega.. dekho abhi mera baat karne ka koi mood nahi…
“you don’t know me, I don’t know you… what would be better than I’ll hear your story, you’ll feel better and then we are both off to our ways.” her eyes shined in a beautiful way, and if he noticed she looked behind him as if there was someone.
“i didn’t know hot girls were this kind,” he said and they both smiled on that.
Together they walked to the adjoining beach area and in the open sky, he told how the girl on the road slapped him not even hearing his side of the story and even his mother thought he was wrong.
“well, I believe in one ideology…
Kuch Galtiyo Ko Maaf Karna Hi Sabse Badi Galti Hai
Aur Aisi Galti Nahi Karni Chahiye
“That was cruel,” he told her seeing the way her eyes turned cold and he was sensing she despised someone and it was not bad for the person.
“then keep drowning yourself in that slap you were slapped for no fault.” she smiled teasingly and it was not hidden that her smile hid a mock.
“Dance…” she offered him.
“i don’t think I can manage…” he told her seeing his drunken state.
“you can manage a lot…” she said as she dragged him to the dance floor.
Moments turned minutes and minutes turned hours, they kept dancing, talking, enjoying each other’s company. He sensed she was a lot like him and she kept denying he was no match to her.
They shared laughter, drinks and when they were both tired they slumped on the long sofas in the intimate corners of the bar.
“told you it's fun when two strangers talk their heart out,” she whispered still hugging his body.
“i didn’t know one such classy lady had a heart of kid hidden from the world.” he teased her.
“she has a lot hidden inside her,” she whispered and blew on his earlobe.
“what do you want lady?” he asked her taking her hand in his.
“you know what I want.” her voice turned raspier and nothing stopped him from pulling her to his thighs.
“now that's what I love about smart guys.” she nibbled on his ear lobe.
The soft innocent kisses were not meant for one such evening and they were about to go wild when she stopped him.
An understanding passed between them and she took his hand to the parking lot, it took her a few minutes to reach the hotel room she was residing.
“you are a dangerous woman,” he commented when she pushed him on the bed.
“Maya ko har cheej apne hisab se pasand hai
Jo Maya ke hisab se nahi, vo Maya ka nahi.”
she told him still smirking as she pulled off the white shimmer from her body and leaned to work on his buttons.
“do you want it?” he asked her just when she made her way to kiss his chest.
An unknown emotion passed through her face, her eyes blinked away something perhaps the last thought of backing away or some tears, he could not know at that moment.
“it's hard to find the heart in men these days, but you have one.” with that she resumed her torture and made him forget the day.
End of flashback ~ ~
“i got to know you had boarded the hotel room with some man… who didn’t turn up that night,” he told her as they sat in front of each other.
“oh, so that was the reason you left without a thank you or maybe a sorry,” she told him as she tried to find out the reason for the delay in the file Mr. Shetty has provided them.
“Thank you, that I understand but Sorry…for what, I don’t get it.” he leaned on the chair comfortably.
“to leave like that…I genuinely hoped that we might end up together in a few dates afterward,” she told him but now her words were plain like she didn’t feel anything.
“oh… well, everything happens for a reason.” he smiled at something.
“so did you get together with your Husband Mrs. Maya Arjun Mehrotra… I remember it was someone named Arjun Sharma the room was booked for,” he smirked at her seeing her full name on the files.
“at that time he was just someone I was falling for and made him jealous by ending up with you.” she smiled again and if he was a single man he was damn sure he would fall for those dark eyes.
Farhad entered the room and gestured Raghav to come and he excused himself.
“Anna… Shetty says it was bhabhi who had canceled the delivery cause Miss Maya did not agree to her request of some fashion-related show or something.” Farhad told in a crisp tone.
telling him to leave and make some papers he turned to the lady busy reading the papers and meanwhile confirming something on her phone.
“It comes to my notice that My wife has some disagreement with you…is it Maya?” he walked to her and asked amused on this crossover.
“who… there are a lot of people who want to do business with Fashion & the city but I can not say Yes to everyone, right… it not how you run a business.” Maya was right.
“well, Mrs. Pallavi Rao requested you and since we are working together for a few months and are definitely not strangers.” he winked at her.
“I think we can expand the business in my other ventures,” he suggested to her in a professional business tone.
“oh, so that's why the calls were not being answered and emails were ignored and in that case, i have to take some legal actions against your store but for the sake of that evening I’ll think about your offer, Mr. Rao,” she said and with the grace of the lioness she was, she left the chair.
"tum khas ho bas isliye mauka de sakti hai Maya, Varna Mauke dena meri fitrat nahi." she poked a finger in his chest and stared into his eyes for moment.
"see you soon Raghav Rao and tell your wife, I like this attitude."
