Behind the scenes at TV awards

PHONE YA MIKE, JEETUJI?

It was a big night for small screen stars. The annual Hero Honda Indian Television awards on Monday had the who's who of tellyland as well as a sprinkling of Bollywood.

There was the usual nach-gana routine and thanksgiving speeches — there was also attitude, slip-ups and over-the-top histrionics. Star Plus will telecast the awards ceremony on November 12, at 6 pm. Here's what you may not see in the televised event….

Jeetu's faux pas

Actor Jeetendra got carried away by his yesteryear leading ladies (Reena Roy, Asha Parekh, Moushami Chatterjee and Aroona Irani), and said, "Now I hand over the phone to them," when actually it was the mike. Wifey Shobha Kapoor was spotted with an alarmed expression. "Phone," she muttered to herself.

The Roy brothers — Ronit and Rohit — along with Shweta Tiwari danced to Kajra Re. But the talking point of the night turned out to be Shweta's unrehearsed fall in the middle of the song.

She slipped and fell flat on the ground. Ronit leaped to her rescue, lifting her up — making it look part of the show.

However, despite the pain Shweta managed to salvage the song, forgetting all about the fall. And in the finale, Ronit even lifted her in her arms.

HitList says: Elder bro Ronit grooves better that Rohit.

Angad gets a call

When Mohammed Iqbal Khan's name was announced for the Achiever award, he walked towards the stage alright — but continued talking on the phone right till he stepped onto it. Wonder who was talking to? And was it so urgent? Tch, tch, that was in real bad taste and disrespectful.

Kumud has lost it!

We mean excess weight. After a long hiatus, we spotted a slimmer Aashka Goradia at the event. We heard Rohit Roy yell out, "Aashu, this way." For the uninitiated, Rohit's wife, Manasi, and Aashka are good buddies.

Sameer bana angrez

Anchor Sameer Soni got many names wrong while calling our the nominees. So, Chaitanya Chaudhary became Chechanya Chaudhary!
Jassi makers Tony and Deeya Singh and their kids could not find a place to sit. So they stood in a corner till someone vacated their seats. When Mona Singh won an award, they could at least cheer in peace.
