This used to be my favorite topic of discussion but with the news of the show shutting down, I don't expect much. There is little scope of showing a slow progression in their relationship if the show ends by June.
I had hoped to see a bit of a backstory to give us a clearer idea regarding why Aastha left and why she didn't fight. Otherwise forget about Shaurya, even the viewers are not convinced. Though I personally feel she was given a tough choice and she took the tougher decision so that her parents' dignity is not compromised. It is not easy for a mother to stay away from her child. And the loss of a child always hurts more than that of a parent. She also had a more or less comfortable life at the Sabharwals whereas she would have to face the taunts of a judgemental society, financial hardships and what not when she tried to chart out a life of her own in a small town.
Now we don't know if Aastha was aware of the fact that Devi was just using Shaurya and Shaan had also abandoned him. Because she still maintains that she left him behind for his own good. Perhaps she did not know. It is only now that she is realizing these things. Had she known earlier, then she might have fought like she said to Devi in the hospital. But then again, today she says that all these years, she couldn't muster up enough courage. So whether she was scared of the Sabharwals or she thought Shaurya would have a better life in SM, is something only CVs can tell. That too if they realize the character inconsistencies they are showing.
Another problem is her never trying to contact Shaurya even when he was grown up. It is as if she suddenly saw him in Gurdaspur and realised she had a son. Though in the OG, she did try to contact him often but it was Shaurya who refused to talk to her. So I don't know why she had been made so indifferent here. It could possibly be to save him from more pain thinking he hated her. That is why we needed some insights into the past.
One of the biggest problems people had with her character was her saying that Shaurya was arrogant like the Sabharwals. That children grow up fine without a mother. (I too have a problem with the second statement, and this was picked directly from the OG but the OG Aastha was different and this statement didn't suit the Aastha here) Though I don't mind her pointing out his flaws but she should have accepted the role of her abandonment in this.
Nowadays she has even stopped pointing out his flaws. And she keeps repeating that Shaurya is a good man. That too to Anokhi, who probably has seen the present Shaurya more than her. She wants Anokhi to rectify all his shortcomings and wants her to take the responsibility of changing him. She is not thinking about Anokhi's own scars to which she had been an witness. She feels love can heal every problem but she has seen with her own life that love cannot solve everything. Her character has become pendulum like now.
I don't know how the reconciliation between her and Shaurya will take place. Perhaps she will admit that she should have abandoned her parents and remained with Shaurya and Shaan and then Shaurya will forgive her.
