CHAPTER 2

"I'm sorry Anokhi, I totally forgot to get you a birthday gift," A 21-year old Shaurya apologized to the 15-year old Anokhi.

"It's ok," she meekly replied, plastering a smile over her face although inwardly, she was a bit down for she was really looking forward to what he would give her. After all, he was the one who convinced her *family* on having a birthday celebration for her, her first ever birthday celebration.

"Oh c'mon Shaurya, it's not a big deal. Anokhi, anyways, doesn't fancy gifts. She is all for simplicity, right kiddo?" Shagun said, faking a sweet tone, wondering what was there to feel bad about, to which Anokhi simply nodded positively.

"I'm sure, she's not even liking all the attention she is being given. She knows she doesn't deserve this," Mr Bhalla added in disgust which Shaurya clearly chose to ignore. Had he not been Shagun's father, he would have given him a befitting reply, he told himself.

"Well, I guess I can make up for that," Shaurya suggested as he bent in front of the teenage Anokhi.

Then, tapping his forehead with his index finger, he pretended to be thinking hard.

"Hmmm, how about I sing your favourite song," he suggested after few seconds and the glint he saw in Anokhi's eyes assured him that she really liked that idea.

"Wow!!! Will you really sing for me?" She asked for a confirmation.

"Koyi Shak???" He asked back to which she shook her head with a big smile adorning her face.

"So tell me, what's your favourite song?" He again asked.

"Hmmm, I really love Tu Tu Hai Wohi," she said in a low voice to which Shaurya just laughed after the initial shock washed away.

"Really Anokhi???!!!," he asked, "I meant ain't that a BIG song for a SMALL girl like you," he teased her.

She was NOT SMALL. She just turned FIFTEEN, she told herself, feeling a bit offended at being called small. Her Mom must had already given birth to Shagun by that age, she concluded realising her Mom would have been 36 years old, had she still been alive as she mentally did her little calculation.

"Ok I'm sorry, I was just pulling your legs," Shaurya said realising she didn't like being called SMALL by observing her expressions. "So, Tu Hai Wohi, it is," he added as he playfully winked at her and successfully managed to bring a smile on her face.

Bringing his guitar which was in his car, he made himself comfortable on the sofa surrounded by the other 3 who were equally interested in hearing him sing. And then after getting the correct tune, he began the song.

Although he was singing for her, Anokhi knew the lyrics were directed to her sister, of whom he stole glances during the entire time he sang.

How she cursed herself for choosing that song, at that moment. The song reflected her state of mind, her thoughts and feelings, that's why without a second thought, she had asked for that song. She wanted to hear her feelings through HIS voice and how blissful it sounded coming from his voice. But only, it also reflected the feelings he harboured for *her* - for Shagun. She didn't fail to catch sight of the blush which slowly crept onto Shagun's cheeks as Shaurya continued the song.

And why not!!! Such was the effect of his gaze. With all the love and admiration he carried for *her* in his eyes, no wonder it could pierce one's soul. Except it was all for Shagun and not her, she miserably thought.

The sound of claps broke her trail of thoughts making her realise that Shaurya had finished the song.

"You've got an amazing voice, boy," Mr Bhalla commented.

"Thanks Uncle. I've this dream of becoming a singer and that's why I've always worked on my voice modulations. And I'm happy I did that. At least, I managed to impress you all," he said with a wink.

"But let's see, if I've managed to impress our Chief Guest," he joked as he turned towards Anokhi.

"So Kaisi lagi?" He asked as he looked at her.

"You're an amazing singer Shaurya. It--it was w-wonderful. Thanks for t-this g-gift," she managed to say as she tried her best to prevent the tears which nearly blurred her vision from falling. She thanked her luck for the dimmed lights that prevailed in the living room. At least, he wouldn't see her tears-brimmed eyes.

"Thank you Miss," Shaurya said as he playfully bowed in front of her.

A nudge from Kanchan who was sitting beside her, brought her to reality.

Kanchan lifted her eyebrows to her as if asking her what the matter was. Although she knew sooner or later they would all pounce on her for she did notice how 5 pairs of eyes were fixed on her a while back, she dismissed Kanchan's query at that time with a light wave of her hand indicating there was no thing as such.

But there was... She knew that. And it troubled her. It troubled her seeing him as her Professor. Once the wave of shock she felt on knowing HE was their professor was washed off, a troubled feeling engulfed her. Why was he here??? As a professor??? Of course she remembers how he had got his much-awaited break for a song album. Shagun did mention that to her 3 months after she left for boarding school when she prompted her although she never heard about the release. Well, that's another thing because in boarding school, any kind of entertainment were forbidden for them and Shagun also never mentioned anything to her. And by the time she had returned from there, Shaurya was already a forgotten thing for Shagun and by then, even Anokhi had dismissed the feelings she once felt for him giving them the name of infatuation. After all, she was just a teen, she convinced herself.

But the fact remains that all he ever wanted was to pursue a singing career. Then what was this 360 degrees shift in profession about. It hurt her because she knew how much he fancied the idea of becoming a top singer and create a name for himself on his known despite being the Only Heir of the Sabarwals.

She also wondered whether he would recognise her. After all, all the grooming and puberty did bring out the best of her. She also turned into that *swan*, Shagun was once considered to be, though she still felt Shagun had an upper hand, yet again, over her as far as their physical looks were concerned. But I have a purer heart, she would always tell herself on being compared with Shagun. But then, she thanked her stars that physically she looked different for she didn't want to face him as Shagun's sister because she had read in old newspapers when she once came home for her holidays, how Shagun had broken up her almost 2-years old relationship with Shaurya who loved her like anything. Now that was a record though, she remembered having told herself. 2 years was quite a long time. The reason was not given and it was even mentioned how it was Shaurya himself who didn't want to make the reason known for he didn't want to tarnish the image of Shagun. She remembered how she felt jealous on reading that. He still loves her, she realised but at the same time she also felt happy. Not because she once loved Shaurya, but because she knew he deserves the best, and her sister was, definitely, not that. And then over the next years, Shaurya had already become old news in the Bhalla household.

But despite having dismissed her teenage feelings, seeing him again after so many years, did bring back those butterflies in her stomach, that lump again returned to her throat, and her heart again started beating fast at his mere sight.

"Excuse me Miss?" She heard him say and then realised he was actually talking to her.

"May I have the attention of Her Highness, please???" He sarcastically added making her red with embarrassment as the entire class broke into a laugh with the exception of her friends.

"Huh...s-sorry s-S-Sssir," she managed to say in between stammers.

"Your name please," he prompted.

There!!! She, somehow, knew that would come. She cannot hide her identity for long now, can she?

"Anokhi...Anokhi Bhalla," she said the last name in a whisper.

Well.. Anokhi really liked him as a teen & I felt sad seeing her state, Shaurya singing a song for her while associating every word with Shagun. Though! - Im glad they broke up. Reading how pretentious, obnoxious & double standards Shagun has been to Anokhi, It felt really good to know they broke up 🤣

However... Revealing her name to Shaurya isn't obviously gonna be positive for Anokhi. As you've mentioned, eagerly waiting for the next ✌🏻

It's gradually getting more interesting. Eagerly waiting for the next part. 😃

Seems like the change of profession changed Shaurya as well 😲
