The entire Mukherjee-Ganguly family is one of the oldest major families in Bollywood. Then there are Bengali actresses like Konkana and Mouni.

Aishwarya, Deepika, Vidya Balan, Sridevi, Asin have done major Bollywood work.

Then there are actresses who have worked in South and then done some work for Bollywood like Shruti Hassan, Nithya Menon, Illeana D'Cruz, Genelia.

Huh?

Vyjayanti Mala, Jayaprada, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Deepika, Asin, Aishwarya Rai, Ileana D'Cruz (she is Goan; not a Mumbaikar), Vidya Balan. Malaika Arora's mom is Malayali. Even PC is part Malayali. South Indian women have dominated the top spots in Bollywood.

Actually, include Jhanvi Kapoor in there. Her mom was very definitely South Indian. Of all the recent entrants to BW, she seems the most likely to succeed.

Sharmila Tagore, Rakhi, Moushumi, Reena Roy, Moon Moon Sen, Jaya Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee from Bengal.

SRK is half Hyderabadi (mother). John Abraham is part Malayali. Madhavan.

Abhishek Bachchan is part Bengali through his mom. The Kumars (Ashok and Kishore and Anup), Joy Mukherjee, Mithun CHakraborty

And Illeana and Genelia are not South Indian by origin. They are from Mumbai. They did movies in the South when they didn’t get much opportunities in Bollywood. Many Bollywood actresses move to the South when they fail in Bollywood.

Bengalis and South Indians have dominated the industry for decades now. Look right back from the 50s.

The only thing important in the industry is to get faces which have a national appeal and could be cast as an Indian from any state.

The young gen actors are not all Punjabis.

Ananya is definitely a UPite lineage wise, Tara is a Parsi, Janhvi is Punjabi and South Indian, Alia is Gujarati-Kashmiri, Kriti is Punjabi, Kiara is Sindhi, Disha is Kumaoni-Uttrakhandi and Sara has roots in Pashtun-Bengal-Punjabi.

Ayushman and Vicky are Punjabis but Rajkumar is a Yadav and Kaartik is a Tiwari, making them both from either UP or Bihar originally.
