What I think is that he is just being positive. He will go to GC, say sorry, she will accept it and both will come back home. So he is just feeling guilty and hoping for her to accept his apologies. The real breakdown will happen when she will refuse to come. I think then he will give a strong one.

And yes, I hope once she is over the heartbreak, she too will realize that she should have talked to him. But we have already seen it before he threw her out. She was hoping him to forgive her and listen to her. She already knows she was wrong.
