Is Sai icon of Feminism really?

To agree or disagree will depend on what you define as Feminism.

I started watching GHKPM because of Sai Joshi. I loved her loud unapologetic bindaas attitude of my way or high way. No grey shades for her in life, either things are right or wrong.

Few find her disrespectful and rude. But for Sai Joshi it’s you get what you give to me, sometimes she serves it back with interest too 😉

(sometimes I really want to be like her and not give a f*** and give it back to people. Probably that’s why I love her 🤔)

How many girls can survive what she had been through without getting scared for life? If you are going to argue it’s a fictional character I would request you to stop reading from here.

She comes from a single parent household. Parent is a father and police officer by profession. So most of the time I would guess she had to fend for herself even though UM was there. She was being harassed by a goon from her early teens. Still topped in her studies and never let herself deter from her goals.

Lost her father who was her world and had to go through a samjotha wali shaadi. She is absolutely abhorred by her in-laws and not accepted. They don’t even treat her like a human being sometimes.

What does Sai Joshi do in her in-laws place? Without cowering down to the ill treatment meted out to her, she gives them back with interest. Yes she is rude and disrespectful to the elders. But do the elders deserve it? Oh yeah 100% I would say! Being elders doesn’t give free pass to misbehave or ill treat others.

Loves her Aai and stands up for her. Helps Tai to reunite with her husband and her daughter. Supports Shivani bua and helps her to get out of a bad relationship.

For me Sai is one character who has got a never say die attitude. She doesn’t get disheartened and picks herself up and gets ready for the next zillat arena fight with a smile.

Sai might be just a fictional character for few but for most she inspires to fight against injustice. We all may not be facing same situation like Sai, but few might have abusive in laws, or emotionally abusive husband or a infidelity in their marriage. Or totally different set problems in their life since we have varied age group in the forum.

When they see Sai tackling her problems head on they will get inspired and might even get courage to get out of the toxic environment or find courage to tackle them sensibly unlike Sai did in devkit track! 😉😬

Jokes apart I belong to a group where I believe ITV and cinema does influence our society and vice versa. The TRP audience does get influenced by the drama.

There are people who might look down at itv drama and say yeh sub bakwaas hai. Yes it’s bakwas with no logic. But the sad part is it’s real in some part of my country in India. I have seen worst in real life than these serials show and would vouch that Bhavani Chavans still exist among us in our society.

So when a Jodha or a Sai fight injustice on screen (even though from different centuries) I cheer them and get inspired to fight my battles irl. People questioning and judging my taste and wondering why would I need inspiration from a ITV FL, my answer is in the of form of a question -

Have you ever felt
at any point in your life this is worst than the tv saas bahu drama? If you haven’t - what are you doing reading this post? Go enjoy your life. If you have welcome to my world! 🤣

So coming back to the question is Sai icon of Feminism? IMO Yes! Because she fights against problems that patriarchy perpetuates. The fight can be as small as I won’t change my original name Sai after marriage or an important one like I will pursue my studies and fulfill my Aaba’s dream. (Yes yes I agree Virat supported herbut we are talking about Sai here so just let this one go😆)

Irrespective of the gender we belong, We all are Feminists when we fight against the patriarchic value system.

Disclaimer: This is just my view points of the Sai character. I am not talking about the Devkit track or whether Sai was right in breaking Virat’s trust. Even though I believe Sai is right with her rude attitude from the beginning to rest of the Chavan’s because she needs that to survive in CN. Else the CN gang will eat her alive! 😬

For me feminism means every human has equal rights and equal access to opportunities.

Feminism is not between women vs men. All humans deserve to be equal.

She even raised question on how they treat Virat vs Mohit. If that isn't feminism, then what is?

She questioned on if a man can go out on a Sunday, then why cannot a woman?

Sai has been fighting for this right since the day she entered the CN. Right from right to education to right to go out during the day and have lunch with her acquaintance.

That doesn't mean she cannot make mistakes. Every human being makes mistakes, but we cannot hold that mistake on the face and ignore their truth, she is a feminist icon.

This can be said for every ITV female lead, they fail logically at some point of their life, sometimes they are stupid but mostly they fight against patriarchal society, I don't remember watching any show where the woman is not a feminist, Every fandom says the same about their female lead, which makes sense because people take inspiration from different things

Icon = a famous person or thing that people admire and see as a symbol of a particular idea, way of life, etc.

Is Sai a feminist? Yes

Is she an Icon of feminism? No

There's a difference

@blue not just ITV female lead, I think we all fail at some point logically in life and act stupid as well. Else we are not human.

Probably for the first world women she is not a feminist icon. For the third world working class women she is a Feminist Icon.

I am talking about Rural Indian women where patriarchy rules their life and society.

Let’s agree to disagree.

Nice post dear, I already suggested this, that for me Sai may not be an icon, but as i say,she does inspires. Cuz,she speaks for herself, and she does not need permission or rights for her freedom of speech or thoughts . So,she stands out,cuz she remains only Sai at the end of the day. Before someones daughter, wife,DIL ,sister ,she is Sai.🤗

P.S.: Sorry ,in a bit of sleep mode now,but loved the post, thankyou for the tag.

Thank you so much for the post.😊

Sai is definitely a feminist. What I like about her character among other female ITV is more often than not she is very clear about her decision and takes genuine steps to accomplish her goals.

I love her ideals that respect is a two way street and everybody either elder or younger should have the right to voice their opinion which is very refreshing for an ITv FL.

Regarding taking inspiration from her and getting influenced by all her actions, I personally would not encourage that. I do believe that people should get inspired by her courage and her will to succeed in life but there are few things which I cannot support.

1. Her action like eloping someone to get married, especially a person who is not perfectly well.

2. Believing in someone (Pulkit) purely because that person was nice to you and your in -laws are against him. People are very manipulative in real world you cannot know there intentions in 1-2 months. She has blind trust in Pulkit in just 2 months.

3. Not filing complaint against the chavans when she got to know about the wrong medicine. Doesn't matter if you don't have evidence. Its the police job to gather evidence.

4. Not filing the case for kidnapping.

5. Taking a decision like marriage in a hurry. This was a rash decision. There was no reason to get the marriage done so quickly. It was only for drama. If I talk logically, no one should be taking inspiration from that.

I do like her character and mostly she is right with her idoelogy and actions but you cannot deny the fact that she believes that she is always correct. I know 80% of the time she is but this attitude will only create problem for you in real life.

PS: I am saying this purely from the perspective that Sai is real person and not a fictional factor.

I relate to Sai because there are many qualities in her which are present in mine. She's almost same to me. Straightforward, give respect and take respect policy, believes in independence of a woman, fights for what is wrong, voicing out my opinion. She's definitely a feminist. No doubt in that..one who's fighting against a partriarchal society, has to be applauded and she's doing this. Fighting against toxic Chavans isn't a joke. And she's doing from the day 1. But yes, she's not an Icon of Feminism even for the third working class of the society. The day she becomes a successful doctor, after passing through all the hurdles, the day she corrects her mistakes, the day she becomes independent, she can be an. But not before that. She's a feminist but not an icon of feminism.

Sai's confrontations are with words, they fight in the end, she wins + She always had support of her father and Virat, she never lacked encouragement to study because two people in her life supported her education

In rural India, girls drop out from school when they start menstruating, where no amount of words will change their parent's mind

I said ITV because things are on the surface and very easy on ITV

Did Sai ever employ any other method than long confrontations and conversions to get what she wanted? Didn't she always have support in one form or another? Do you see her studying? Topper study for hours, everything is very easy for Sai

Sai is feisty and a feminist but definitely not an icon for women in rural area

When it comes to fighting battles against patriarchy, every ITV female lead does it, she's not "Iconic"

To each his own and let's agree to disagree
