I too feel like these were the first people he got to know and interact with in the entertainment business. So he's just with them now I guess. And who knows how he really feels about them. Maybe he does like this fast, racy lifestyle.

By drugs I meant vices. It's not necessary for him to drink, smoke etc. He can have a completely private and clean life and still have a rocking career.
