Both are excellent, but Rani is better.

I really dislike Rani but Rani. They both have their strengths. Rani is prettier and had the opportunity to play all types of typical romantic heroines in Bollywood, hence the "versatility". Konkona doesn't look like our heroines so she never got the opportunity to play half the roles Rani did. They both overact from time to time and excel other times. Not a fan of either.

Rani Mukherjee by a country mile.

Despite Konkona's superior talent, I find Rani's body of work more interesting. Her career graph is quite remarkable too in that she was never some great intellectual (unlike Koko) and she started off with WTF films like Bichhoo and Badal with Bobby Deol(!!!) but eventually transformed into this amazing, sensitive performer with roles like Saathiya, Black or even Talaash (where she was just excellent)

Konkana is a superb actress but as a poster above rightly said, she is a little bit in her comfort zone. Although her talent is unquestionable and she might become a true thespian by the time she is her mother's age.

Rani is less of a thespian but a very versatile performer for a mainstream actress and overall has shown incredible growth. So I'd say Rani.

I can't choose. I like both of them a lot.

I loved Konkana in Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, 15 Park Avenue, Wake Up Sid and many more.

Rani was great in Black, Hum Tum, Chalte Chalte, Saathiya etc.

Their acting is very natural and that's my favorite thing about them. I refuse to pick one 😛

In drama, I'd say they are both the same.

However, in comedy/candy-floss roles Rani is the better performer. Konkona can do them too but she got some limitations like lacking beauty or hotness, she couldn't have done a film like BnB or HT or even CC that easily. She would look totally out-of-place in a film like BnB for instance.

Also Rani was quite beautiful in her prime, was quite popular with the audiences, had many commercially successful films, and could perform well in other areas too (like modelling, dancing, featuring in magazine covers, good fashion sense -- remember the Babli dresss craze following her?)

Hence I say Rani is the more versatile performer. But even solely on the basis of acting (even in serious dramatic roles), I find Rani slightly better.
