Hello everybody.😊

Welcome to another discussion , and this time it is about the porterayal of strong girls in Pakistani dramas.

We saw many dramas which highlighted strong women in Pakistani dramas who fought to make their children have a good life. But here we are talking only about girls (unmarried) who are strong, independent, have dreams to make it big in this world.. who want to study and have a job to support themselves and their families. ex. Zindagi Gulzaar Hai , Ehd E Wafa , Umm E Hania ... ⚘

It is sad that many dramas focus on marriage and masloom aurat typical dramas, whereas strong girls are getting the least of dramas.. some are shown as vamps.😲 ex: Dil E Gumshuda . and some remain in the backseat , like sisters and friends to main leads , ex : Dushman E Jaan.😒

So what do you think guys? Which dramas focussed on strong girls? And how do you think of porterayal of them in dramas? Feel free to share your views .🤗

There are many well written strong girls in PK dramas but, since we are talking about unmarried ones, I can only think of few.

From the top of my head, Kashaf who I feel is a brilliantly written character. Her determination to do something in her life, to earn a living, a name, to give her mother a good life is admirable. Futher she doesn't aspire to win the moon or anything unattainable, she just wishes to be independent enough to make her own decisions. She struggles through life yet doesn't give her up her courage, doesn't give to worldly charms (even though she is lured enough in college) and stands by her principles. She is the strength of her mother and sisters yet has flaws of her own making her more relatable.

I can go on and on about her, watching ZGH the times I have, i can probably write a thesis on her 😆 So I'm just gonna stop.

Next, Meera (Urwa Hocane) from Udaari was a pretty strong character too. Even though she despises her family profession and keeps sharing that loudly, she stands by her family and her mother when needed. Further she doesn't get hung up on a guy who insulted her, in fact tries her best to move on from him and make a living. She is hardworking and does her best to improve her singing and slowly adapts to the ways of the city without giving up her true essence and identity and she does it to develop her career. Even later on when Farhan's character proposes to her, she doesn't accept (even though she likes him) cause his mother doesn't respect Meera and her family. She also changes the financial status of her family, educates her brother and helps her neighbour (Sajeeda and Zebo). Lastly, she does get harassed two times, yet fights both the times and doesn't let those two incidents affect her in anyway.

Third, I would like to say Ajiya Ali (Iqra Aziz) from Suno Chanda. Even though she does inappropriate things and sometimes gets on the nerves, she is very passionate about her studies. Also she doesn't compromise on anything that she feels is wrong and is very vocal about her choices. She doesn't give up her dreams and stands by her decision to get a higher education and earn a living.

Thank you for joining the discussion..and mentioning these impressing strong female characters.

I only watched ZGH one time..and I loved Kashaf. She is a true example of many girls in our society.. her struggle is very relatable. I wish writers tell more realistic stories insteed of the same typical ones.

In Sabaat I saw many layers of Kashaf's character in Anaya. But I feel that makers paid more attention to the other strong girl : Miraal which was a negative one.😔

I love dramas with strong headed girls but for some reason our Pakistani dramas try to portray them as negative most of the time. Like if shes not a becharim then shes either always yelling or plotting against others🤢there are better ways to show a strong girl

The best example is Kiran from Kankar

Kiran from Kankar was exemplary. She was not extraordinarily strong initially (unlike Kashaf) but eventually when the situation pushed her to the brink, she did what it takes. Many women just accept the situation whereas she was determined and valued her self-respect enough to say enough!

I also liked the character Sanam played in Daam. Dont remember the name of the character but that one too was quite powerful. Determined to succeed inspite of failed friendships and relationship, without being bitter about it throughout her remaining life.

Then comes Mishal from Besharam played by Saba. It was all good and well except in the end where they show she quits her modeling career because her husband (and she herself too) does not think it is respectable career... I wonder why though!

I think knowing when to give in and more importantly when to give up on something/someone does show one's strength of character.

I agree . Chakrees started of on a high note. Both characters played by : Srha Asghar and Mariam Fatima are strong and indepedant. I hope it stays like this..and we get to see more dramas with strong girls for inspiration.

It is injustic that many women with strong personalities are framed as bad girls, just because they refuse to go with the flow. In Tumse Kehna Tha , Rabi is an outspoken girl, whom her parents insisted in her getting married to a guy , although she clearly refused, and told them that she loves another guy.🤓

In many other dramas girls are supposed to leave their study or job, and get married, no matter how they try to avoid it. And those who succeed in refusing such perfect rishta's are shown regretting it later. like in: Qaraar, Dil E Gumshuda and Koi Chaand Rakh.😳

I found Kiran from Kankar strong since the absolute beginning unlike most other female leads. Just because she tried to make her marriage work by giving him chances, that doesn't make her weak. She was headstrong since the very first day. If she silently took his abuse without saying a word then yes I would call her weak but she always stood up.

oh yes i forgot about kashaf she was another favorite...also Washma from Pyaar ke sadqay and Iraj from Meri Beti

I am sure there are plenty of others! I even loved Sanam Chs role in ADKKH

oh yes Momina in Alif as well

@blue. Agree.😊

I feel old dramas had more strong female characters than new ones. Dramas like : Dhoop Kinarey , Tanhaiyaan are ageless. They highlighted the power of women who aspire to make it big in a realistic way.

Mashal from Besharam will remain one of my fav characters. ❤️

On the other hand Kanwal from Baaghi who was another strong character failed to impress me, because I find going against your culture norms should be in a decent way. And she used the freedom she acheived in a bad way. Just my pov. 😳
