As Kamala Harris told Trevor Noah about names recently, "It is the first gift that a child, when they enter the Earth, receives from their family. It is usually informed by tradition and love, and the hope and aspiration the family has for that child. It is something precious and sacred and it is a part of their identity,"

We love or hate a name. We may believe one name is better than the other. But our opinions don't matter. It is what matters and is important to the family, how they want to share their legacy with their child.

And maybe in the future the child will decide to change their name because its bad. But that's for them to decide. Not for us to decide now. And perhaps like Gogol in The Namesake, they will someday accept their name as a gift from their parents.
