Thank you. I really struggled with this. I wanted to write more but couldn't come up with anything so posted what I had written. The next part will be about how Sai and Aniket ended up together.

Part 7

Hey guys. So the last part only got one comment. We spend hours writing something you read in minutes so I will be wrapping this SS soon. This next part is dedicated to neerja91 whose comment kept me going. Thanks girl!

Shivani dropped Sai off to college. She wore an aqua kurti that flared at the waist with white leggings. Gold juttis completed her outfit. Sai missed the jeans she wore in Gadchiroli. ‘Stop thinking about the past!’ She chided herself. Determined to make the most of today, she made her way to the auditorium. On the way she ran into one of the organisers. ‘Aniket mile to andar bhej dena.’ Saying this the girl took off. Sai had heard about Aniket. He was a senior, who had returned after participating in one of those singing shows. Back in Gadchiroli, Sai kept up with every single one of them. She couldn’t do that at Chavan Nivas as they didn’t watch TV after 6.

Although Aniket was studying medicine, music had always been his passion. Coming from a long line of doctors, he was expected to take up medicine. While he excelled in his studies, it didn’t bring him the same joy music did. When his friends told him about a reality show, he applied for the sake of it. His father let him on the condition that it wouldn't affect his studies. Aniket didn’t expect to get past the audition stage so when he was selected, he worried about breaking the news to his father. As he had to go on the road for 3 months, he deferred a year which his father wasn’t happy about.

Aniket was never the nervous type but ever since he came second, his confidence took a hit. He was trying to steady his nerves when a voice broke him out of his reverie. ‘Tum Aniket ho na?’ she asked. ‘Why can’t I just be alone?’ he thought. ‘They’re looking for you,’ she pointed backstage. Aniket took a deep breath. ‘Nervous?’ she asked. He nodded. ‘Just picture everyone naked.' Aniket raised an eyebrow. ‘That’s what they say on TV.’ Sai gave him a thumbs up and left. Although her advice didn’t do much to steady his nerves, it sure brought a smile to his face.

The crowd was chanting Aniket’s name when the lights went out. A single spotlight followed him as he sat on the stool. He took a breath and flashed his dazzling smile. ‘Good evening Nagpur! It’s good to be back! This one’s for you.’ A girl near Sai fainted and her friend caught her. Sai rolled her eyes. ‘Zehnaseeb Zehnaseeb. Tujhe chahu betahasa Zehnaseeb…’ he started to sing. Sai was enjoying the music when her phone vibrated. She saw it was Virat. ‘Did he come for me?’ Sai nervously thought. ‘Sai agar tumhara ho gaya ho to ghar saath mein chalte hai.’ He spoke. Sai was elated. Sai was nearly at the gate when she heard Aniket behind her. ‘I’ll see you around. Mere pati wait kar rahe hai,’ she shouted. ‘Thanks’ he shouted from afar. She gave him a thumbs up and disappeared.

As she approached the car, Sai noticed Pakhi in the front seat. Her face fell which didn’t go unnoticed by Pakhi. ‘How was the festival?’ Virat asked, once she got in. ‘Theek tha.’ she said quietly. ‘Ye kya pehna hai tumne Sai. You should dress more gracefully.’ Pakhi taunted. ‘Graceful.’ Sai mouthed and made a silly face. ‘Use jo pehen na hai pehen ne do.’ Virat looked ahead. The rest of the drive was spent in silence. Once home, Sai ran towards their room. Virat was about to climb the stairs when Pakhi called out to him. ‘Thanks Virat. Mere saath aane ke liye.’ ‘Don’t mention it. Main bhi chahta hoon Samrat jaldi se ghar aa jaye,’ saying this, he walked up the stairs.

Sai was arranging her books when Virat walked in. ‘To program ke baare mein batao?’ he leaned against the desk. ‘Zyada kuch nahi par XYZ ka runner up, Aniket More ne perform kiya.’ she said, not looking at him. ‘Wow. Agli baar saath mein chalenge.’ She turned to look at him. ‘Pakhi ko bhi saath le jayenge. Uska man behel jayega,’ he said with a smile. ‘Good night Virat Sir.’ Sai went her side of the bed and laid down.

The following day Aniket found Sai in the library. ‘Hi,’ he said, standing in front of her. ‘Oh hi. Guess mera advice kaam kar gaya. Performance kaafi achi thi,’ she smiled. ‘Bohot hi bekaar advice tha Mrs....’ He pulled out the chair in front of her. ‘Sai. Sai Joshi.’ she replied. ‘Nice to meet you Sai, Sai Joshi.’ She went back to making her notes. ‘Nagpur mein nayi ho?' He asked after a minute. ‘Kyun pooch rahe ho?’ Sai stopped writing. ‘Tumhare zyada dost nahi hai,’ he said. ‘Har koi tumhari tarah popular nahi ho sakta,’ she replied, putting her stuff away. ‘Popular ka pata nahi par dosti ache se nibhana aata hai. Aisa mere dost kehte hai,’ he gave her a mischievous smile. ‘Hmm...’ she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked away.

Sai and Aniket gradually became friends. Seeing this, a few of the other girls started speaking to her too. One day the two of them were studying in the library when Aniket asked, ‘Sai tum kabhi apne pati aur family ke baare mein baat kyun nahi karti?’ ‘Kya jaan na hai tumhe?’ she shut the book she was reading. ‘Kuch bhi. Tum mere baare main sab kuch jaanti ho. Yahan tak tumhe yeh bhi pata hai ki main music pursue karna chahta hoon par Dad se darta hoon.’ ‘Mere pati Virat Chavan, IPS officer hai. Ghar mein aai, baba, kaku, Omi kaka, Sonali kaku, Shivani bua, Devyani Tai, Mohit, Karishma aur Pakhi didi hai. Samrat dada bhi hai par kabhi mili nahi unse.’ ‘Joint family huh. Tumhe acha lagta hai joint family mein rehna?’ Aniket leaned forward. ‘I don't have much of a choice,’ she said with a small smile. ‘Tumne itne kam umar mein shaadi kyun ki?’ ‘That’s a story for another day. Filhaal mujhe jaana padega. Ghar mein pooja hai. Bohot kaam hai,’ saying this, she dashed off. Aniket found it odd that she never spoke about her family. He didn’t mean to pry but he was concerned. Sai was always late, she dozed off in class and today she had come to college with bandages on her hands. He made a mental note to ask her about it tomorrow.

Half an hour later, Aniket saw her waiting at the bus stop. ‘Didn’t you leave half an hour ago?’ he asked. ‘Kya karu. Bus late hai. Aaj to kaku mujhe maar hi daalegi’ she said checking her watch. ‘Chalo main drop kar deta hoon,’ he gestured towards his bike. Not wanting to be scolded yet again, she accepted.

Pakhi was picking flowers from the garden when she saw Aniket drop Sai off. No sooner had Sai stepped in the house, she asked ‘Apne dost ko andar nahi bulaogi?’‘Konsi dost Sai?' Virat asked, looking up from the paper he was reading. ‘Aniket.’ Sai said, twisting her dupatta in her hands.
