Would Range De Basanti have worked if Aamir was not in it?

Hypothetical question, folks.

What do you people think: would Rang De Basanti have worked if Aamir was not the lead protagonist? Would the film have garnered so much commercial success?

As a rule in India, political satires face dismal prospects at the box-office. Rang De Basanti would have faced the same fate I believe if Aamir was not in it.

It would have got critical acclaim but fallen flat at the box-office. That's what I believe.

Or do you think the film would have been a success nonetheless because of the content?

Possibly but Aamir himself was coming off that Sabbatical. He had done Mangal Pandey which took the all time opening but then faltered snd finished average. So I guess he brought a decent amount of star power to it even if not a whole lot. I’d say attention the film got initially was cause of Aamir but then the film itself took on a life of it’s own

Personally I found Aamir’s character the weakest of all. He was so annoying during the masti wale scenes and also his so called romance with that English lady was anything but romantic.😳 He probably lent his name for the credibility to an otherwise project filled with no namers , but the real work has been done by the other actors and director.

Well the entire movie was a team effort anyway

don't know but initially I didn't want to watch the movie because of Aamir. Wasn't a big fan of his acting. He is my least favorite character and actor in the movie. The rest of the cast was awesome! He looked too old and out of place.

Oh, not to forget ARR’s contribution. When was the last time a movie had such soul stirring album which also contributed to its success?

Sure ! nobody does a ‘preachy’ like amir does .

Wasn't Amir emerging from the disaster of MP? In that case, RDB actually did more for him than he did for the movie..

That said, I think everything came together for the movie, actors, music and story.. really can't credit its success to any one aspect

I found Aamir Khan really annoying in the movie. For me, he was the weakest link in the movie. Whilst watching the movie, I wished they cut down on his scenes and gave more screen space to the others. I wanted to see more of the other characters instead of Aamir Khan’s character.
