A lot of people in the South have dispensed with caste based Surnames... They use father /husband name... That can be called patriarchy too.. It is best if a kid is given two names

One simple rule should be: boy should take mother's surname and girl should take father's surname. That's an easy way to ensure equality and smash patriarchy.

Family is complete when you want it to be. It's complete with just a couple. Or a couple and a kid. Or a couple and two kids. Or just a single parent and kid(s). Or just someone who is happily single.

Aamir's son has two surnames Azad Rao Khan, so does Aishwarya's daughter Aaradhya Rai Bachchan. It's a better precedent than straightaway taking father's names.

In South they also follow suffixes and prefixes of father name, location name, god name. 😁

I think for ease of purposes kids should not get surname in schooling period and as an adult should be given option to pick one, if absolutely necessary. Or they can pick a new one of their choice.

Storing it, is key for keeping our identity safe.

And remember, if you don't keep your Identity, your identity won't last.

This reminds me My dad doesn’t even want to use our last name as my kids. He said give him a last name from our ancestors caste. I’m like no that’s dumb. First off my wife didn’t even legally change her name to my last name. So now me, my wife and my kid all will have different last names 😆
