I seriously dont understand/dislike this “bahu se beti bangayi” accomplishment that tv shows show with such emotional/happy background music.
Why is being a bahu some kind of low position in a family that she needs to work extra hard to get promoted to a beti ? Is a bahu a 2nd class citizen in her family that she has to strive to upgrade from it?
And the requirements for the promotion are - listen to all nonsense that’s being flung at you and despite of that, keep being “good/polite/nice” to everyone. After decade(s) if the head of the family deems you are worthy, he/she/they will finally accept you as a legit member of the household?
Coz being a bahu means you’ll always be an outsider, no matter how much you do for the members. You’ll never get full acceptance like say a damad does?
Also why is it not asked from the bahu if she deems the other members acceptable? If she thinks her MIL has successfully become like a mother or her FIL has become a father to her? It’s just assumed that all in-laws should come first before bahu’s own family, automatically but the bahu should have to toil all her life to “prove” herself. Like wtf?
Don’t Dadi/Manish and others also want approval from Naira that they have succeeded in becoming like her real family? Or is that taken for granted?
And in the same vein, proclaiming in public that your one bahu has become beti 🥳whereas your 3 other bahus havent yet, will only fuel discrimination between them. Do we ever do that between any other members of the family? Like compare two damads publicly and say 1 is better/best than the other? No, coz it’s kinda disrespectful that you show your bias openly. But competition among bahus is totally fine, then when fights will happen in the house, blame can be shifted to these DILs.
