Chapter 29

“You cannot forever hide your true face in the shade;

it will eventually be caught by the light!”

She stood near her room’s window, folding her hand and looking outside lost in her thoughts.

“Coffee”

Came Sejal’s voice from behind who was forwarding a cup of coffee towards her.

“Thanks”

Riddhima said with a smile taking the cup from Sejal’s hand.

“So where were you lost?”

Sejal asks taking a sip from her cup.

“Nothing was just thinking about the person for whose crimes Vansh has been arrested. For all these years this one person has been residing in this house fooling everyone for so long.”

Riddhima replies while looking outside while resting her back on the window seal.

“So, what’s next? How are we going to get to that person?”

Sejal asks her only to get a deep sigh from Riddhima as a reply.

He stared at the woman in front of him lost in some other unknown world away from reality. Unaware of the surroundings she had this faraway look in her eyes.

“How’s the lady doing doctor?”

Still looking at the woman through a vast glass window asked Ridhay to doctor who came out from the room of the lady after checking her up.

“We are trying our best Mr Randhawa, Mrs Shergill. Though the woman is in a better condition still she needs time along with her own people around her. Maybe she will recover sooner if she meets or stays with her family or someone who knew and dear to her, a loved one. If you can I request you bring someone from her family as soon as possible to her maybe her husband or children.”

Saying so doctor left from there leaving Ridhay getting lost in his thoughts. Feeling a hand on his shoulder without removing his gaze from the woman he said with despair in his voice

“For how long, for how long would it take? For how long would we be able to hide things from her? How far will it be before Riddhima would reach here asking no demanding answers to her questions and what are we going to tell her? If Riddhima remembered and asked about her what would we answer her? This woman here how long would will we be able to keep her here hidden? Sooner or later we will have to bring her out in front of the world. What if…?”

Then turning around and looking at his aunt he left his question unfinished with unshed tears forming in his eyes.

“Don’t worry Ridhay. Don’t lose hope. Riddhima will understand. What we did we had reasons for it.”

Sakshi said trying to console Ridhay though she herself was worried.

“Anyways talking about Riddhima reminded me I met him at the aerospace project ceremony. I must say the confidence and self-assurance that I saw in him was impressive. The man has a backbone had it been any other circumstances I would have liked him.”

Sakshi said with a smile surprising Ridhay and making him turn towards her. It’s not every day one gets to hear Sakshi Randhawa Shergill being impressed by someone. Then again, it is also not every day one gets to hear about someone who stood up to her. Were the men of his grandfather’s age won’t dare to stand in front of her, the man Vansh Rai Singhania stood his ground. Thought Ridhay while hearing about him from her Ridhay had a glint in his eyes making Sakshi smirk with a knowing look on her face and turn around to look at the woman in front of her

“As for the woman in front of us, we will see what we have to do when the time comes.”

Sakshi said with her a determination in her eyes and her face hardening up staring at the lady on the other side of the glass window while Ridhay had his back towards it.

Anurpiya cuts the call with a smile on her face and turns around and gets shocked.

Anupriya yelped and asked

“Y… yo…yu…u you, w…w…wa…what are you doing? A…a…and since when you have been sitting here?”

Stutteringly in a nervous voice to the man sitting on the armchair with his one leg folded on the other, both arms resting on the armrest, head lying on headrest and eyes closed.

“Since the moment you entered the room I have been present here Anupriya. So, lost were you in the momentary win that you didn’t saw me, the good old me?”

asked the man mockingly in a calm and composed voice which was oozing danger. That calm and composed voice of his was way scarier than him actually threatening her.

“Tsk tsk, Anupriya you disappointed me. You know me better than that at least better than anyone else here in this family. Don’t you?”

He said while standing up from his chair and walking towards her in slow strides scaring the hell out of her and stood right in front of her.

“Then how come you thought you could possibly defeat me; play with me without having to face consequences? I expected better from you”

He continued while bending and forwarding his face towards her making her take a step back in nervousness while droplets of sweat were forming on her forehead.

“Ahh look at you. You are sweating?”

He said while wiping her forehead with his hanky. Then suddenly grabbing her neck he pushed her to the wall behind her and strangling her neck he hissed in a deathly voice

“I told you Anupriya. I told you to stay away from him. I told you to make understand your son. I told you to not mess with Vansh. I told you to not mess with me and ruin all these years of planning and hard work. Did I or did I not?”

he shouted with a crazed and dangerous look in his eyes.

“For all these years it was me who had been handling and operating these illegal businesses in the name of Vansh. I, it was me who he trusted blindly. I used that very trust to my advantage and used him as my cover. First his father than him it was all along and now everything might come crashing down all thanks to your and your son’s over smartness. You, you dared to cross me Anupriya; me? It seems you have forgotten the real me. ShallI remind you who I am Anupriya?”

He said tightening his hold on Anupriya’s neck with each word making her face turn red due to lack of oxygen. Holding his hands trying to get the man’s grip loosened her released from his vine-like hold, tears flowing from her eyes, panting she said

“Ka…Kai…Kailash p…please PLEASE”

Looking at her face for a few moments her loosened his hold on her and then letting her go he turned around while Anupriya coughed vigorously and took huge gasps of air.

Then once again Kailash looked at her with his face contorting in anger and said

“I tolerated your nonsense all these years. I stayed quiet when you married my brother even when I did not agree with it. I have to give it to your guts Anupriya knowing well Ajay Rai Singhania is my elder brother you ended up marrying him. For all these years I have been tolerating your petty games as long as they did not affect me or my business in any way but seems like you took my silence for my weakness.”

He turned around and took some deep breaths trying to calm him. Then pausing a bit he turned towards Anupriya tilting his head with a frown he said

“Perhaps I should show you.”

with a dangerous gleam in his eyes and a smirk forming on his face madeAnupriya look up at him hearing him while looking at him sent a shiver run down her spine.

Taking out his phone he made a call while giving the person on other endsome instructions he still kept staring at her making her confused. After finishing up he dismissed the call with an evil smile playing on his lips he sat on a chair. Anupriya knew better to say or do something at this moment. It has been ages since she had seen this Kailash and to be honest she was scared like s***. All these years him being away and whenever he did come back he used to be a family man a good son, a good brother, a good and loving uncle, and a fair and honest person to the family to such an extent that even she conveniently forgot that there was also this side of him that existed.

A facade it was she knew yet since it had been so long since she saw this side of his that somewhere the fear of him had subsided not gone though it was very much present there. A side that though was hidden from his family and the rest of the world, but it wasn’t hidden from her.

The side because of which she was so scared of him. The side because of which she avoided crossing him yet like a fool she ended up doing just that because of her greed and anger. And now she will have to pay for it. She knew she knew very well that it was he who was one of the most ruthless and cold-hearted criminals out there. Heck, not just any criminal but a mafia with contacts all around the country and some parts of the world.

One other reason why she wanted to frame Vansh, she thought maybe this way she could have gotten rid of both men in one go. She thought maybe luck was on her side finally with all these years since things worked in her favour somehow and maybe this time too things would work in her favor. Maybe this time she could out best Kailash and Vansh with this one blow. Alas, it was stupid of her to think that she could best out Kailash. Thought Anupriya now looking at him fear was evident in her eyes with each passing moment a dread was seeping into her.

After about fifteen minutes his mobile rang, picking it up he heard the person on another end which brought a pleased smile on his face and he said

“Alright show me live.”

Looking at her. Then turning his phone’s call into a video call she saw Kabir was surrounded and being beaten up by some guys who she was sure were Kailash’s men. One of whom was on the call a little distance away was showing it live on his phone.

“No no no Kailash please. Don’t do this. Please”

Anupriya begged him while being held by him and made to see her son being beaten up brutally lying on the ground.

“Kabir Kabir please Kailash stop them pleeeease Kabirrr.”

Anupriya shouted for her son crying with tears flowing down from her eyes but her voice was not reachable to him. She begged and cried

“Kailash please, please forgive me, please. Please let him go.”

She said to Kailash folding her hand looking at both her son and the man who was holding her in a tight grip respectively. Blood was oozing out of Kabir's nose and mouth.

“Alright enough leave him and go.”

Kailash instructed making his men leave from there while Kabir was lying on the floor. Then disconnecting his call while Anupriya by now was sitting on the floor crying and, taking Kabir’s name again and again Kailash knelt down beside Anupriya. Patting her cheeks he said

“Good now that you have learned your lesson make yourself useful. Go and look what our sweet new daughter in law is doing along with her friend and that girl Ragini. Isn’t that what even your son has asked you to do?”

He said with a wink making Anupriya shocked at how did he know what Kabir has asked her to do. He stood up about to leave but stopped and said

“And Anupriya no more trying to act smart with me and don’t you dare to leave this house. I know you want to run away to your son right now but he is a strong man he will be able to take few beatings and if you tried to act smart my men wouldn’t have gone far away they can always return and Kabir is still laying down there on the floor I am sure.”

With a smile but the threat and the underlying rage weren’t hidden.

Unknown to them their entire conversation from the time Anupriya entered her room was recorded in a mobile camera with a video by someone who was standing outside the room seeing, hearing and witnessing the entire encounter between the two people present inside.

Leaving Anupriya on the floor Kailash returned to his room. Freshening up he sat on his bed with his back resting on the headrest and shadows playing on his face giving an eerie dark feel in the darkroom with the only light coming from outside. Anupriya has become a headache for him. That woman is a leech. His absence from home gave her the opportunity to get her to hold on to family but not on him and he needed to make her understand that. The woman had forgotten her place and now after today, she would know better than trying to play with him.

Now because of that woman and her blasted son Vansh has landed in jail putting him in a tight situation. Vansh going to jail had put Kailash’s identity at risk of being disclosed in front of the law. Though it for days like this is why he took Vansh’s identity as his cover not to mention other reasons this property that his not so dear nephew has on his name would be his. the property that he had been eyeing for years just like few other members of his family only the weren't as good as himself.

People in his world who are loyal to him knew it was him but for the rest of the world, it was Vansh. Also, his nephew’s entire powerful persona did help him. Then there is this new member of the family Riddhima from the first day itself he had this uneasy feeling about that girl. Kailash thought while remembering about her talks with Sejal which he heard while she was telling Sejal about her nightmares.

The girl is nice and that’s the problem. Being nice means being nosy, righteous, morals, and this urge to do right and save the innocent. In this case, Vansh is innocent, and if proven so it will be problematic for him. For his, own betterment it will be favourable if Vanshstays inside the jail and now he will have to see that’s what happens.

In any case, Riddhima should not get any proof to prove otherwise. That girl is already trouble enough. To keep up the facade he had been nice to her but now all he wanted to do is get done with the girl. Anyways she could be dealt with later on though I would have to keep an eye on her. For now, though will have to think about how to get out of this situation which has been arisen because of Anupriya and her blasted son.

It won’t be long before police and the rest of the investigating teams start digging further and chances are they might reach him. Though he had been careful enough and made sure to not leave any proves against himself that can lead to him yet one can never know.

“Why is that suddenly everything is compiling up and turning against me?”

Kailash said to himself getting lost in his thoughts.

Ragini was restless. A lot is happening, some things she intended to happen while some she didn’t. Walking to and fro in her room, she came to a stop and took a deep breath. Taking out her mobile phone she dialled a number. Soon the person on the other end picked up and Ragini said

“I want to meet you. When can we meet?”

“Alright, I will catch you there in an hour. See you”

saying so Ragini disconnected the call and started preparing to leave. Unknown to her Anupriya who stood outside her room heard her and wondered who she was talking to.

“Now what is she up to it could not be Vansh, he is in jail. It can’t be Kabir either.”

Anupriya talked to herself looking at Ragini thinking about Kabir once again she remembered what happened a while ago. She was hell worried about him. God knows he is now. If anyone came for his help or is he still laying down on an unknown road in the middle of nowhere. She wanted to run to her son but at this moment if she did anything out of line Kailash won’t spare either her or her son Kabir. Right now she can only pray for her son’s safety and that he would be fine and Mishra reaches him on time and take him to the hospital thought Anupriya. Then looking at Ragini she thought to herself

I will have to keep an eye on her. Who is talking to and who is she going to meet? Is she playing her own game here but with whom? Who is helping her? Is there a new player or someone old who is unknown to her and hidden from everyone? There is only one way to find answers to all these questions. I will have to follow her to get to know this person and Ragini god saves you if you are trying to either double-cross me or my son. At this moment after Kailash, I won’t any other harms come to my son. If you as much pose a slightest of a threat to my son I will kill you with my bare hands.

Anupriya thought with a hard determined look on her face.

It was an hour later when Anupriya was following Ragini in her car. It was after half an hour they stopped at an abandoned house in a secluded isolated place. Being careful not to alert Ragini, Anupriya followed her inside the house when all of a sudden Ragini vanished in the dark. The place was dark and dingy. It wasn’t big so she must be here somewhere. Anupriya thought and started searching for her.

After about fifteen minutes Anupriya reached near a room hearing a few voices she comes near it. Through a slightly opened door, she peeked inside and came to stand still in shock.
