CHAPTER 15 Relations,Emotions And Competition

Weeks passed and 10 galas were already over. Till now journey of Hurricane was pretty smooth. They worked really hard and managed to secure their positions in top 5. The producers and organizers of the show were happy with high TRP's and contestants were happy with increasing fan following and such a big platform they were getting by this show. Hurricane was no different, they were also happy that finally their dream will come true. However Neil was not at peace completely. He was happy for the band but somewhere in his heart he felt his happiness is incomplete without his loved ones. He was missing them badly.

He was standing in his room near the window, engrossed in his thoughts. He was missing his mother's sweet and encouraging words. Though Seema has phoned him few times but he wanted to have some quality time with his mother so that he can see how happy she is for him, the shine of pride in her eyes for him. And although it seemed weird to him too but it was true that he was missing his father also. No matter how irritating Yash was but he has become habituated to their little arguments. Infact he loved to poke him and loved the way he always win in their fights leaving Yash more irritated. He let out a small laugh at his wicked thoughts. But he secretly hoped that may be Yash is also missing him and he will come to meet him, hug him, and be proud on him forgetting all their differences.

He came out of his thoughts by a knock on the door. A person came and informed him that his dad Yash Oberoi has come to meet him. Neil couldn’t believe his luck. He almost ran to meet Yash.

Yash was standing in the lobby, facing the gate, hands in pockets of pants, waiting for Neil, all lost in thoughts but his facial expressions were giving idea that he was preparing the agenda of his meeting with his son and repeating in his mind that this time he should not let him win and make sure that he will come with him right away. Neil was coming towards him, smiling, happily surprised but the moment their eyes met he understood that they will be having another heated argument.

“ Neil, I want to talk something really important to you.”

“ I know dad, that's why you are here, obviously you were not missing me.” Neil said sarcastically.

“ I am not in a mood to start an argument.”

“Yeah right, so whats your important issue.” Neil asked disinterestedly.

“ I am going to Newyork to sign a deal with the leading company there. It will be a big deal for Oberoi Industries after that we will be huge name in international market. The business world, news agencies all are looking forward for this deal ant not only this it will open new avenues for us all over the world…..” Yash kept going on about his business opportunity.

Neil had confusion written over his face, “Dad…dad…I understood what are you trying to say…but why are you saying this to me?”

“Because I want you to come with me. This is a perfect platform to launch you in business world….and…” Yash couldn’t complete because Neil started laughing in between.

“what made you think that I will come with you?”

“I remember our deal very well, I am not asking you to leave the show, I am just asking you to come with me for two days…just two days. It is a life time opportunity for you. Why don't you get it?” Yash asked getting irritated now.

“Thanks for remembering dad…but just for your information..you had given me two years and till then no interference….so your business deal and foreign clients can just go to hell. I am not interested in coming with you, besides the rule of the show doesn't permit me to go anywhere between the show.” Neil replied.

“But Neil….” Yash again tried to argue.

“You can go dad, I have to prepare for next gala round.” Neil stated clearly and turned to go.

Raised his voice in a last hope to convince him, “ Neil just listen to me once.”

Neil lost his control and shouted,“ you listen to me dad, everytime I try to bridge the gap between us..everytime you ruin my efforts. Everytime I hope that you will understand me but everytime you crush that hope. Now I think you can never understand me…may be I should stop expecting any kind of support or anything from you. But I would like to request just one thing dad…please let me live in peace ..atleast here. Now please go before anyone notices our lovely meeting, I don't want to create any scene here.”

Neil came back in his room. He was on the phone, talking to Mini who was consoling him and asking to concentrate on practice and forget about everything else.

“Try to understand Neil, he is your dad..in a way he is right at his place.” Mini tried to reason.

“I cant believe it. Your are taking his side. You are saying its all my mistake.” Neil was angry now.

Mini calmly replied, “Neil I am not taking anybody's side….and don't over react, first you need to calm down.Come-on, stop being angry and take a deep breath and focus….”

Neil was highly irritated now.Instead of understanding him she was asking to calm down. “I don't need your advice. To hell with your deep breath and focus. I don't wanna talk to you. Sometimes you just talk like dad and I hate that and right now I hate you.” He cut the call without giving her any chance to speak.

On the other side Mini was shocked at what he said and how he cut the call in middle. She became angry too and stared blabbering in anger – "what does he thinks of himself..huh?? Mr. sadu, rude, arrogant…I was just trying to help him and he…he…fine! I will not give you any advice…argghhh…I hate you too."

Arya was passing by her room and heard her blabbering which raised her curiosity to know the reason of her anger though she knew it must be something related to Neil and she enjoyed their little fights so how could she miss this one.

“Any problem?”she asked innocently.

Mini was still looking at the phone angrily but secretly wishing that it will ring any time and Neil will say sorry. “Yes, a big problem and its name is Neil.”

Arya tried to control her laughter, “Really? What did he do?”

Mini narrated the whole story, “ can you believe it? He cut the call.”

Arya showed fake anger, “What? He cut your call. I didn't expect this from him. He really did a big mistake. You should not forgive him this time. Let him be alone, sad, frustrated, angry…” She accentuated these words to draw Mini's attention. “So what if it would affect his performance, he did a big mistake and he should pay for it so what if he was in a bad mood….” She tried reading Mini's expression who had started melting on hearing those words which she used to describe Neil's state.

Mini already started feeling guilty, “Actually he is not at fault completely. He had a fight with his dad and I was lecturing him about relations and all that…may be he got frustrated and said those things in anger.”

Arya was finding it difficult to hold her laughter, “So what? But he shouldn't have acted that way.”

Mini without realizing now started defensing Neil. “But Arya…he was angry on his dad…and now on me. You know him na, he is very emotional, he will keep this things in mind and it will affect his performance…damn..what I have done. He needed me and I couldn't understand it. I should go to meet him…right now actually.” She left without waiting for Arya's answer. On the other hand Arya was laughing uncontrollably on her Mini’s innocence and cute fights of two lovers. It was a source of her entertainment.

Hurricane was practicing for the upcoming gala round in the academy. Everyone was trying his best except Neil who was all lost in thoughts and finding it difficult to concentrate. After third time when he sang wrong and Bobby became angry.

“What are you doing yaar? Focus man, you are two notes higher than the required pitch.” Bobby said irritated from his repeated mistakes.

“Yes, Bobby is right. Neil take a break if you are stressed out but remember we can't make any mistake at this stage.” Jazz agreed.

“Yeah right, now all of you also have problem with me. Then I should better go from here.” Neil left the room leaving all of them puzzled at his behavior.

“Ye Neil ko kya ho gaya hai achanak. Mickey tumhe kuch pata hai kya?” Preet inquired.

“I don't know, let me check on him.” Mickey replied and went after him.

Neil was in his room again,muttering something under his breath and crumbling the piece of paper in his hand in which he has written the song for his next performance. Mickey saw it and ran to save it as they didn't have any other copy of it.

“Neil, what are you doing? Bechare paper par toh taras kha usne tera kya bigada hai?”

“ Mickey, I am not in a mood of talking, leave me alone.”

“Par hua kya?” Mickey inquired again.

Neil became angry, “Oh God,everyone is hell bent on irritating me first dad then Mini…now you…leave me alone.” Neil shouted and threw a pillow on Mickey.”

Mickey caught the pillow, “ok ok chill dude…I am leaving.” He left before Neil could throw something hard on him. He saw Mini was just about to enter the room.

“ Thank God you came, Neil ka dimag kharab ho gaya hai, only you can handle him.” Mickey informed.

“I know Mickey, I am the culprit.Don’t worry I’ll see what can I do.” Mini answered.

“Best of luck…and beware…the volcano named Neil can erupt any time.” Mickey warned.

Mini knocks on the door

Neil shouted without looking, “Mickey,I think I made it clear to you. I dont want to talk to anyone.”

Mini asked nervously, “Not even with me?”

Neil was surprised to see her but maintained his sadu attitude, “yes, you included.

“ Neil please look at me. Okay I am sorry. At least listen to me.” Mini began but Neil showed more attitude, “listen to you…when I asked you the same what you did…you were lecturing me about how to be a good son.”

“I am saying sorry na. I was just trying to help you. I don't like it when you fight with your dad, we should respect our parents and their wishes and not fight with them.” Mini tried to reason.

Neil moved close and clutched her from shoulders, “Mini..Mini…Mini….that happens in your family. Your family is perfect. Your upbringing is different….and my family…my relations with my dad are very different…you wont understand Mini…you have always experienced a loving n caring nature of your parents but I have seen completely a different side. Its not that I don't respect my dad but …but no matter how much I try to solves my issues with dad, he… he always find ways to irritate me..I only have you Mini and whenever I feel upset I just want you to listen to me,my heart and understand me…but you…you know what…something I really hate in you is that you always come up with your so called intelligent advice at the wrong time which is just impractical to follow….gosh!! why you always try to prove him right…why cant you listen to my point of view." Neil kept going on and on with his rant.

Mini didn't know he will react like this. She was not prepared for this and hence didn't have any answer she could just feel that he is really hurt and she is also the reason for it but he cannot blame everything on her like that. She atleast came and said sorry but look at him…being so arrogant.

“Fine! Sulk for whole day after that incident. I am going.” Mini said and turned to go. Neil realized he made a mistake. He didn’t want her to go. He finally let go of his anger and took her in his arms, “hey Mini, stop please. …don’t go.”

Mini felt it in the warmth of the hug that he has already forgot the argument but she wanted to be sure, “Are you still angry at me?”

Neil caressed her hair. “I was never angry at you…just frustrated and upset with the situation. I am really sorry, I always end up venting it out on you. I am a very bad boyfriend.”

Mini smiled at him. She knew what he is going through these days. They were not having time for each other. And this completion and all giving him stress. It was difficult time for them. “No,you are the best thing that has ever happened in my life and don't say sorry,its ok. Usually in such situations we fight with the one we love most.”

Neil tightened his grip around her, “Thanks for bearing with me and my mood swings. Really you are my rock, my support system. I don't know what I will do without you. Please stay by my side…. Always.”

“I will, I will be there for you.”Mini whispered hiding her face in his chest.

Her words brought a sudden rush of emotions inside Neil's heart. His heart swelled up with pride of having such a girl in his life and deep ocean of love inside it told him to never let her go and shower this girl with love and exactly the same he did by showering sweet little kisses all over her face and mumbling "I love you" between each kiss.

Mini knew she should leave now but neither she nor Neil wanted to let go of the comfort of their embrace. They stood like that for sometime, holding very close, foreheads touching, arms encircled around each other's waist,

Finally with heavy heart Mini broke the sweet silence and parted a little. “Neil, your band needs you. You all have come so far now you don't want to return empty handed…right. Problems will come in your way but you will compete till the end. You should go now, all are waiting for you. I should also leave.”

Neil again pulled her in a tight hug, refusing to let her go and complaining like a kid. “No, you are not leaving so soon. 10 galas are over meaning 10 weeks…10 WEEKS Mini. We havent met properly infact we don't even talk as often as we used to because all my time goes into this damn practice. I am missing you so much, when this damn show will get over?”

Mini smiled on his childish behavior, “Neil stop behaving like a kid. You need to do this "damn"practice in order to win this "damn" show. She air quoted the words mocking him. Its your dream remember.

“I hate it when you say the right thing.” Neil pouted.

“But I love it when you agree like an obedient child.” Mini laughed pulling his cheeks. “And by the way stop complaining ..you are lucky as you are localite, though for less time but atleast we can meet but think about others, they have also came leaving their loved ones and they cant even see them.” Mini said.

“Actually you are right, its not enough to just dream we had to endure lots of pain, do lots of hard work to turn it into reality. But the thought of not meeting you….not seeing you for weeks…whoa!!...its dreadful!!!” Neil confessed.

They were disturbed by the knock on the door. It was Mickey who came to inform Neil that the all the contestants are called in the hall where the organizers will make some important announcement.

On person form the organizers/producers team had mike in his hands. “So all the guys and girls, I have some really good news for you all. You will be glad to know that last week our show broke all the records of TRPs in the history of music reality shows on TV” The contestants cheered and shouted, whistled with excitement. “Since our show is getting good response globally and to cash this popularity we have decided we will be shooting remaining galas and the finale outside India. We will shoot at some happening places of the world by giving it the form of live concert.” All the contestants were happily surprised.

“Yes you heard it right! You will be traveling at different places for next 5 weeks and will get to perform live between your fans and will be judged by live audience. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags.”

There was loud noise, cheers, whistles, hurrays, screams from among the contestants. Some also become worried as the format has changed a little and its going to be more difficult to perform live. Mini and Neil looked at each other as the news settled in. Their eyes were giving the idea of desperation to be with each other, heart was aching due to intolerable pain, face was showing fear of not being able to meet each other yet lips were curved in a fake smile to show that they are the part of the crowd which was busy in celebrating this news.

As soon as the crowd dispersed Mini turned around to avoid eye contact with Neil to hide her tears and said bye to him.

“Thats it……..I am quitting the show.” Neil stopped Mini.

Mini was shocked at his words, “Do you know what are you saying?”

“Then what do I suppose to do? 5weeks without you….will not be able to see you…no, no way…I cant…oh god just few minutes ago I was dreading this thought and it has come true….hell why did I say such things?” Neil cursed himself.

Mini tried to motivate him, “don't be stupid Neil. Remember what you said just few minutes ago, "its not enough to just dream we had to endure lots of pain, do lots of hard work to turn it into reality". So you cant back out now.”

“I don't want to stay away from you….” Desperation was quite evident in his voice. He pleaded like a child, “Please come with me, we will go together.”

Mini laughed on his childish act.“Neil…you know its not possible and stop being over dramatic, its just 5 weeks…we have to be strong. And may be this for our betterment, you will have all the time for practice and I can concentrate on exams, after all I don't want to fail in exam like you.” Both chuckled at her last statement.

Neil finally accepted defeat as he knew there is no other option. “To say that I will miss you is an understatement….I will crave for you…god knows how I gonna make it without you…how will I survive?”

“Dont worry, You are gonna nail this competition.” Mini kissed him on forehead and bid goodbye. “Now I should better go…all the best love.”
