Is Ranbir Kapoor overrated?

He used to be but not any more. RK is not a bad actor. He was just given too much credit too soon which stunted his growth. I have a feeling he'll be back now that there has been a lull in the relentless praises.

We really need to stop expecting actors to be perfect artists from the get go. Experience matters, and those with some talent should be allowed opportunity to nurture it.

I always found Ranbir to be an actor who is extremely invested in his craft. He's someone who doesn't take the audience for granted, despite being a nepo product.

Look at his filmography, and it's studded with gems. Right from Wake Up Sid to his latest Sanju, he has excelled time and again with exceptions like Besharam of course! Be it Barfi, Rockstar or Tamasha, he has poured his heart and soul into each role, leaving no stone unturned in blurring the lines between art and commerce.

So to answer your question, no he is not overrated. Looks are subjective, I find his persona very attractive. And his acting makes you forget his looks anyways, it's that powerful.

Second only to Rajkumar Rao in this generation in acting and more of a complete package than Rao, he surely deserves to be numero uno among actors of Gen Y.

I am new to I-F and to BW forum. How are you all? I am not a big Ranbir Kapoor fan. I watched a few movies of his and found him decent. Even in terms of looks, I find him average tbh. I find a lot more good looking guys in Delhi where I am from. I just see a lot of girls go beserk for him in my college etc and I've never understood what the deal is about him really? Maybe just the larger than life screen opportunities he gets, because of being a Kapoor?

I watched both Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Ye Jawani hai Deewani a few days ago. I honestly found Imraan Khan more natural and amazing in JTYJ. I even found him to do a decent job in Kidnap and he comes across as more natural, than Ranbir. But Ranbir is more popular.

Anyway, I'll be glad to hear some of your views on this :) I am curious to know.

In his element.. he is good and quite effortless. But, he certainly cannot do every role out there. He failed in masala genre(beshram) .

Its not totally true he is no longer ovverrated... its just that he has not given any material after SANJU ... once he has a movie approaching ...all the hype will start.

Thank you :) Yeah I haven't seen Besharam, but I do think as well that he does the romance and the romantic-comedy genre quite well. I sometimes think that even in different roles that he experiments like Sanju, there is an underlying monotone in his performance..but I appreciate him atleast experimenting with different stuff. Will give him credit for that. His films definitely get a lot of hype and credit. The kind of hype Bhramastra had been getting for the past two years has been insane too. Especially with the whole Ranbir-Alia relationship thing attached to it too.

The hype never reduced, even at the slightest opportunity it emerges .

Like recently “ find me a better actor than Ranbir and Alia “ .

basically in the whole of Indian cinema not just Bollywood there are no better actors than these two , according to Bollywood wallahs.

Tell me he is not overrated by collective forces of Bollywood and it’s media.

Yes, he is. He lucked out when he debuted as there wasn’t much competition in his age group apart from Imran (who wasn’t as good as him) and thanks to his surname. He is definitely not a bad actor but he is average to me...he doesn’t seem connected with his emotions and able to let go and fully embrace the character he plays hence his successes tend to be mirroring his real life persona (coming of age playboy type). I would go and watch his movies if I like the director and script but I would never expect him to wow me as I’ve never felt connected to his characters. But again, not a bad actor just seriously not as good as what people make him out to be. If you compare his style of acting (more subdued) than Saif is miles better (and I don’t like Saif anymore).

Imraan Khan is a bad actor. Maybe Ranbir is overrated, whether he is the best can be debated but he is without a doubt a fine actor. Imraan was always an absolutely average-bad actor.

Underrated overrated ka pata nahin lekin kuch din pehle media wale were talking about his burner accounts on social media. It has become an open secret to them. The raving mad reaction on SM se lag rela hai his burner accounts on IF is soon gonna make a comeback.

If masala genre is equal to bad acting, he failed, yes. He was unable to let go of his acting sensibilities, unlike a Varun or a Tiger.
