People have been watching saas-bahu dramas for 20 years. So, I think that changed their tastes. Otherwise, Indians used to watch good tv shows in the 90s such as R. K. Narayan's Maldugi Days and Sea Hawks. Even Ekta Kapoor herself produced Hum Paanch at that time and It was really enjoyable.
