Yes, so desperately want her to continue as Sai Joshi!
I think either Virat will write Sai or maybe Dr. Sai since that is technically a change. 😄

Wait, so you mean the husband can change the first name as well? I thought it was about the surname only😲

And like do girls keep the first name of their father as well, ( as in Kamal) and then take the first name of their husband when they get married?

I'm not culturally aware, so enlighten me anyone?

Did her dad call her by a nickname that Virat knows about? Sai called Virat as Gabbar, did he call her a filmy name also? I can’t remember.🤷🏽‍♀️ Either way these two know how to get around Kaku and her gang. Isn’t hilarious that anytime Kaku a.k.a. Mast Mast makes an exit, Virat’s dad and the gang follow her right out. What’s that about?

Yes in some customs first names are changed like in Maharashtrian and Sindhis. Not sure about others.

So generally it would be Sai Kamal Joshi with her father's name (it's more because schools insist on a middle name for women which is generally father's if she's unmarried or husband's if she's married). Now if Sai changes her surname and takes on Chavan surname then by default her name would be Sai Virat Chavan during her admissions etc

In Christians, women have a second name that's their own name and they don't take father's or husband's first names as their middle name

This Maharashtrian ritual of changing name of the bride actually takes place after the Saptapadi or phera where the groom chooses a name for his wife by writing it on a plate of rice. In today's times, many people skip the ceremony in the sense that they do choose a name but it's not officially changed on documents if the lady wishes to retain her original name (not surname).

Bhavani insisting on this ceremony after not wanting to do anything is her way of getting back at Sai, knowing how fiercely proud she is of her roots. Guess that Bhavani knows Sai will refuse to change the name (I hope she also retains her maiden surname but seems unlikely). So the Kaku and her Makad Gang is going to keep provoking Sai's pride and extracting reactions out of her. Virat will obviously write Sai on the rice plate and say he has picked that name for her.

How many of us want her to continue as Sai Kamal Joshi?

Thanks for the information in Maharashtrian rituals, Janaki! 🤗

Thanks for so much info🤗

But after marriage it can become Sai Joshi Chavan right? I mean she doesn't need to take the Virat part.

No. In India official documents do not allow anyone to choose a middle name other than father or husband's first name. It can be left blank and is not optional. But there is no provision yet to include a woman's maiden surname and husband's surname jointly. Many women do it now out of awareness and choice but it is for all informal usage. Formal documents can have only one surname with or without middle name. It's not mandatory to change the surname, however.
