“Have you thought about a date?” he asked as he drove her home…

They had run into Satyen as he was walking out with her

Smrita and Satyen were in one of the side rooms converted into home theater watching some show on the rather large wall mounted screen

“Ms Mathur” he had called out

She was beyond embarrassed she had to stop and peek

He waved to his wife and got up, sprinting almost to her

“did you meet his friends?”

“Oh? Oh no… I came to meet Kalyani”

“Isne kaha nahi aapko? Iske kam se kam 1000 friends hain”

“Great… I just said yes to a social animal” she agonized

“She hasn’t met them

“When u do meet I am going to say it will be at a stadium” Satyen laughed

“Itne dost hain tumhare?” Viveka asked Raanav

“somewhat… but he loves to exaggerate”

“Well Raanav has two”

“hahahaha…”

“Are the brothers best friends?” Viveka asked Satyen

“Yes of course”

“Hmm.. I am too…. With Viveka” she mumbled

Satyen noticed the change in expression

“I better go” she said quietly

“Sure…”

“Umm.. see you then”

He stepped forward and gave her a fatherly hug “Kalyani tells me you were very strict in grading and always gave large homework on Friday”

Viveka laughed shamefaced

“I am happy to see you… did you eat the moong dal halwa? Its Rakhi special” he smiled

Smrita grunted hinting

“Are you done yet? U don’t have to entertain the middle class nobody”

“Haan abhi ek second”

“Raanav, driver can drop her beta…. Do u mind?”Umm.. I forgot ur name”

“Viveka Mathur” she said pleasantly

Smrita’s eyes sparkled with mirth, Viveka noticed

“Viveka, we usually have a dozen of them, “

“I am good… I am dropping her off” Raanav shook his keys

“that’s the right thing to do” satyen glared at his wife

“Well good to see you… I would say keep visiting but I am sure you are very busy”

“I am” Viveka nodded

Walking to the car

“She does not like me” Viveka said out loud

“Ha” he cackled

“You should think about this thing Raanav, I am probably never going to kiss someone like you probably (wistful) but… you know”

He leaned on the hood and folded his arms

“I don’t… Viveka Mathur” he said grimly

“U know… you don’t want a lifetime of stiffening and cringing when I come in contact with your mother do u?”

“I did not cringe Viveka”

“Why do u say my name like that?” she mum,bled with a glass push up, she stared at the hub cap

“Like what?”

“I think about it when I am alone”

“So YOU DO think about me” he smiled softly

“I don’t usually agree to marry the men I have economic policy disagreements with”

“Hope not” he said silkily

“I don’t want to take a Laissez Faire approach” she muttered softly “I am giving you fair warning, because I might not be so willing to negotiate after we take the plunge… I am quite loss averse” her lips trembled giving away the emotional investment she had already made☺️😭

“Good to know” he whispered

“Its your life too… BTW… your Mom wants whats best for u”

“So what I want doesn’t matter?” he asked slowly

“You don’t know what u want” she mocked him, and laughed nervously

“We are doing this Viveka” he said firmly

“Mujhe ghar chhodo” she changed topics nervously

“Give me one good reason?”

“Its going to rain”

“U could always come in again” his eyes danced teasing

“Ahhhh” she turned red

He reached and rubbed her burning hot cheek with the back of his left hand

“U never gave me the thing”

“I will give it to you on wedding night” he smiled opening the door

“I have no idea what I am getting into… why does everything he says sound so mouthwatering?”

Yes...Viveka is right though. No matter how thick of a skin you have or don’t care. It eventually starts effecting. I hope Smitra does create more drama. Don’t like her taunts.

Getting married to a parashar seems to be that kind of a gamble isn't it? Sigh!!!!!😭 Good the warning has been sounded out and it would be foolish of Smrita to assume that viveka can be ignored or disposed of as one would of a wilting withering wall flower .

If anybody was cringing there, it was Satyen parashar. Mrs.Parashar's play is an open secret now. No one here is neither an emotional fool nor delusional thinking Smrita is going to hold out a welcome placard for her.

That said, the harsh reality is this... even tolerating Smrita while living 20 or 200 or 2000 or 20000 miles away is not for the faint of heart let alone living under the same roof.

To smrita, viveka will always be the unsuitable rank outsider. Neither should Satyen or Raanav think of everybody living under the same roof. Yes it's super nice to have all seated on the dining table enjoying the meals, but I'm sure Satyen will adopt a laissez faire approach when it comes to letting the couple live on their own terms.
