He says mujhe haq hai , but by the end of the song the girl sang tumhe haq hai.

So he asks the consent , I have the right and end by the girl saying yes you do.

The lyrics make it clear, the guy ask about making love throughout the night and indirectly saying to take her virginity and girl replies back with yes beloved you have the right to do .

–Male–

Raat ki raat jagaaon, mujhe haq hai

Chand poonam ka churaaon, mujhe haq hai

–Female–

Piya, Piya, Piya, Piya, Bole Mera Jiya

Tumhe Haq Hai

Oh god.

I never paid attention to the lyrics

Chand poonam ka churaaon😆 naughty barjatiya

On topic, there is no such thing as "mujhe haqq hai".

Marriage doesn't give you ownership or rights on your partners body.

Also, the girl saying "Tumhe haqq hai" is sending a wrong message to women about marriage or relationships..

I guess he is trying to make her feel comfortable, but saying "mujhe haqq hai" sounds bad .

You love trolling old Bollywood movies, don't you? You can't take scenes literally.

There is indeed romanticism around 'the right of a husband' in many movies. 'The right of the husband' also makes it acceptable for women to submit to sexual desire, something that was forbidden for women. In a twisted way, 'the right of the husband' also lets a woman preserve her innocence and chastity even after marriage - she hasn't given in to carnal desire but merely fulfilled her duty. Although no one really believes it to be literally true it is an often-used trope because the expression of female sexuality is still considered taboo by many. The woman is coy all along acquiescing to sexual advances only when the husband asserts himself.

It is not marital rape because he is never coercing or forcing her. Even the 'right' is expressed gently as a form of asking permission. She still has the freedom of saying no or drawing lines.

I do agree it is a problematic trope. One of the reasons why consent education is difficult in India is due to beliefs like this. Women are forbidden from expressing desire. Even if they experience desire they are expected to say no. If they give in right away they fear being perceived as loose and immoral. They expect the man to always assert himself. This trains men to see 'no' as a 'try again' and they struggle to discern between the hard no and the try again. We should be doing away with these tropes.

If two consenting adults want to sex after marriage its not marital rape. But in India most women, let her husband to have control over her sex life. Most women and girls in India are discouraged to enjoy their sensuality. Many of them are virgins and never had any kiss. So marital rape does not exists in Indian women's mind. Many of them look forward towards first night.

There is loads of difference between women's right among the modern woman and traditional Indian women. India is still very conservative. PDAs between married couples is not allowed.

Married couples do PDA all the time (except kissing), even in villages. What are you talking about? Even the old saas-bahu shows nowadays show women initiating consummation, or at least enjoying it with ecstatic expressions.

Umm not all of them are like that. I've seen enough women in Bollywood films who had no reservations expressing what they wanted. Off the top of my head, I can only remember Poonam Dhillon in Teri Kasam (1982) taking the upperhand during their suhaag raat and having her way with her conservative groom played by Kumar Gaurav. She's feisty, stubborn,a little spoiled and quite used to getting what she wanted. So it was completely in tune with her character.

And as for men being trained to see 'no' as a 'try again' .It is not gender specific. It took me a while to understand that when most people say "No" they actually mean "Persuade me".
