Snatching her suitcase from his hands, Sai entered her new room.
Their room, she sighed.
This was not how she had planned her life. Her studies, becoming a Doctor, making her father proud were her priorities, but then, Virat appeared. And with him, every dream and hope died out.
How was she to live in a world devoid of her father’s presence?
How was she to last in this house, where her presence seemed so hateful?
Survive, she knew she would.
She was built strong enough to persist through any situation. But she feared the hollowness inside her, feared that it would eat her up before she learnt to breathe for herself again.
She looked around the room, trying to find something familiar to hang on to.
Nothing.
“Beta”
The soft voice broke her out of her reverie as she realized that Virat was long gone. Turning around, she came across the only person who was silent amidst all the mayhem downstairs.
“What’s your name?” she asked, keeping a plate full of food on the nightstand.
No ‘how could you get married without informing us’, No ‘which family does she belong to?’, No ‘how could you, Virat?’ None of the welcoming she received earlier.
“Sai,” she replied in her gentlest voice, afraid to break the tranquility that has settled in the cold dark room.
“Sai,” the lady repeated thoughtfully, then proceeded to pat her hair in an attempt to comfort her.
It was maybe the warmth of her hands, but Sai felt her eyes closing drowsily. The happenings of the day and the emotional burden she was carrying since her father’s death had drained her.
“Maybe I would after all,” Sai mumbled.
“What?’’ the lady asked.
Breathe.

I'm really eager to see how the CVs develop the relationship between Sai and Ashwini, and this was a scenario that came into my mind. I hope their relationship is a warm one.
