Heya!

Since the wedding of Samrat and Pakhi, I have been googling about lot of things. Like what is ukhane, who is Khandoba raya and all.

Is there anyone who can understand the customs or words used in the show and explain?

I know the yesterday's dialogue from Virat to vittal is powerful but I didnt understand much. Except that Virat referred to himself as Chatrapathi Shivaji's faujee.

Any help, please ? 😳

I've been to Pune/Mumbai for around 2 years, so familiar with a few words and slangs. In the show, they use lot of marathi words/sentences in between, to setup a Maharashtrian/maratha feel but then it's difficult for non-marathi people to understand. Which words are you referring?

I agree I also find it very difficult to understand now think about people who watch the show but are not from India.

It's difficult for me too to understand but I also love the marathi feel that they give - very authentic. Also I try to make out the phrases in context. Don't understand fully but I get a rough idea.

Yes I agree it's difficult. But then, if they have to show a Marathi family, then adopting their culture and language is also necessary, specially because marathi people are very much connected to their roots and language. Hindi speaking people doesn't have much significance there.

And if they'll not show it like this way, marathi people will surely object. I've seen people questioning about a show based on Bengali culture as actors were not that thorough with Bengali accent.

I dont watch the show but came across the title of this topic so decided to reply. My native is maharashtra and my parents speak marathi so I can answer some of the questions.

Ukhana is a short poem that newly weds recite at special occasions like first meal after the wedding or grahpravesh. And they have to insert their spouse's name in it. I gues this is becuase in earlier times neither husband nor wife used to address each other by their names so this gave one opportunity to do so 😳

Malhar or Khandoba raya is deity in Maharshtra and considered as incarnation of Shiva. I am not sure in what context it is used in the show but typically newly weds go visit Khandoba temple

Feel free to ask more questions, I would be happy to answer my best āļø

Ukhane is generally of two three lines rhyming. Its a ritual perform by newly weds on few occasions. Basically they have to take each other's name in that rhyming....similar kind of rituals are also found in agrawals and maheshwari caste

Khandoba is the God in maharashtra ...marathi people generally are followers of Khandoba. He is believed to be lord shiva's avtar.

I completely agree. In fact, this is one of the best things I love about the show. How true they are to the Maharashtrian culture. My parents though not Maharashtrian, can speak Marathi and said that it's all accurate. Plus, most of the actors are also Maharashtrians. I'd rather not understand all of it and let it be authentic instead of the kind of mockery they do in Yeh Hai Chahatein and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. It is so infuriating when they show a character as Tamilian but literally nothing about them is Tamilian. Kudos to Team GHKKPM for perfectly capturing Maharashtra.

Haha! Though there are sub titles, I'm actually interested to know the exact meaning and the importance of them in Maharastrian culture
