I feel worse for Arjun because there are many guys and girls who will say yes to the marriage to come to UK etc. The father kept him in the dark and daughter did the same. Infact if things didn’t work out the father daughter played with the emotions of the entire family in Punjab who trusted them.

I'm glad we agree that what the dad did was wrong...

But sorry, I don't sympathise that much with people who agree to a marriage with someone they don't know well, and have nothing in common with JUST so that they can come to the west, it is pretty opportunistic imo...

But Jazz didn't even want the marriage, so she is not really responsible for what happened to Arjun imo. For that, 80% blame goes to Jazz's dad for deceiving him, and then maybe 20% to Arjun himself for not bothering to find out Jazz's own opinion about this marriage, and just getting obsessed with her looks and U.K passport.

That was a twist

True, that was a good ending to a bad story tbh, as Charlie simply sucked as a person and Arjun was unbelievably (for his background/situation) angelic and mahaan, so it was a case of a terrible racist guy vs an obviously good, open minded and sacrificing guy...

But then there was all the sexist dakhiyanoos shit in the beginning, and the fact that no one even said that the Dad was wrong conducting the forced marriage in the first place, let alone him facing the prospect of legal action...

Yes! The movie is definitely problematic. What Jaz's father did to her was absolutely horrible! Lying to your daughter and forcing her to get married to some village guy she has barely met??!!🤢

Namaste London doesn't get much heat because people mainly talk about how good Akki-kat's chemistry was and how beautiful Kat looked in it.

Problematic for who ? The movie does not stand the test of time ... 99.9 % of movies will not.

So we only have to tell stories which caters to people that are " non probeamatic " ? It was very clear even while audience were in the movie theatre how horrible the dad is. No one thought he was an ideal dad.

DDLJ gets the heat because dimwits like Anupama Chopra and her cozy circle have problems with "Probelmatic elements" from others movies vs her own movies and SRK and clan she is pally with.

These exact same ppl are celebrating 25 years of DDLJ and preaching us gandhigiri through SANJU baba.

Namaste London was entertaining . No one in this world has changed their parenting style only after watching the movie.

I guess 'Gone with the wind' , Godfather' name the greatest movie ever made will have problematic things . Why do we expect Utopia in movies ...when there is none in real life.

I'm very surprised that Namaste London has never been mentioned in these discussions (especially when even DDLJ and a lot of fairly inoffensive comedies have been brought up in that context)... and it's not even just on this forum, NL is generally well loved (hence it became a blockbuster), but I find the story and overall message (which is way more important than one song or scene imo) EXTREMELY regressive for it's times...

Does anyone else on here agree?

yes, its regressive and entertaining . Progressive and entertaining is welcome . Progressive and boring movie is a NO-NO for audience.

Film industry itself is full of sexist, misogynist and hateful people. Most of their progressive talk is aneways half baked.

Personally speaking , i dont think any of them(actors/ directors/writers) are qualified to send or give a regular person any message. Pretty sure , all of us know what is right and wrong.

A film at best can show mirror to society . I would never watch a film maker's movie if he intends to give me a message.

It is horribly regressive. But, Patriotism > Regressiveness, so not one talks about it.

Yep...

Somehow India’s past achievements and the existence of racism in the west are supposed to mean that there should be different rules for men and women, and forced marriage is ok 🙃

Realistically speaking no girl will choose a Indian village idiot over a white guy and no guy would agree to get cucked in public . Arjun should have filed for divorced and gone back to India

So now it has six pages of bashing of Akki's movie, will now SRK fans stop using the "only my SRK is bashed" card.
