Its deliberate. Part of the storyline. They saw the huge success last year between Asim/Sid where favorism was openly rebelled by Asim, and they realized 2 things:

- Dhakka mukki allow karne se itnaaa bhi audience outrage nahi hota hai. Thus, all the physical tasks.

- Meta storyline of favorism works. So now they are going full-on.

Its pathetic and the credibility (whatever little there was) of the show is totally dead.
