Anybody who thinks "asexuality" should be mentioned in the same breath as "homosexuality" and it's struggles doesn't deserve to be taken seriously. This is what you get when you focus too much on the terms itself and not what they represent.

What does 'demisexuality' even mean? That you don't get attracted unless they know them? Like, THAT deserves a separate category? Gotta love the surrealism of it all.

While asexuality is valid and has challenges on its own, sometimes I feel people get loosy goosy with the definition of asexuality.

Asexuality is not experiencing sexual attraction. Getting disinterested in sex either in general or with a person, or experiencing periods of disinterest is not asexuality.

Aleesha* in the story on homegrown.in could very much be an asexual. But there is a strong possibility that she is a woman with a healthy sex drive, but merely disinterested in her husband. There are so many women who lose interest in their significant others but don't admit it due to the taboo. Women have basically been trained to take the backseat in relationships and suppress a lot of their desires. The number of women who don't experience orgasms or enjoy sex because their partners are selfish or oblivious is mind-boggling.

And while aphobia is problematic cisgender and heteroromantic aces do have it easier than others on the LGBTQ spectrum.

EXACTLY. Asexuality is not having sexual desire, period. By that definition, "greysexuality" and "Demisexuality" are bullshite and do not qualify to be under that spectrum.

It’s easier to die than be unmarried in India. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Are you really that dumb that you’re missing the point here ?! And yes rape is a crime in any condition and yes more than often asexuals are subjected to that in the name of curing them ... what’s not clicking

and also there’s a difference between choosing not to have sex ( being Baal bhramachari ) and not feeling sexual attraction at all ..

how many asexual Indian girls or guys would have a choice of not having sex ever , even after their marriage ??

so yes poor asexual Indians cos people like you don’t even know the difference between choosing not to have sex and not feeling sexual attraction

Many people are forced to have sex on the first night due to pressure or by the partner even when they are not comfortable. For an asexual woman sex can be very painful experience.

Really? I lived my whole life in India, unlike you. I see that NRIs have some very outdated notions about India and what life here is like. It's true that parents pressurize you, but it's not the same everywhere. I'm over 30 and blissfully single, so are many of my friends from various states and cities. I see 30+ unmarried people in my office all the time.

The extreme stereotypes that NRIs do are downright stupid.

I live in India now. Most of my friends &/or collegues are forced into marriage and not happy. It depends on your background and family as well. The kind of people you interact with. Family and societal pressure is real.

Ikr .. imagine being forced to have sex and pressurised to have kids when they clearly don’t want that and are asexual ..

Then maybe they come from ultra-conservative/village backgrounds. I see most people around me in happy marriages and/or relationships, even those from small towns. A roommate of mine from a small village, who has been engaged for three years, goes on three-day sexcapade weekends and regales us with tales about it. And she's far from being an exception from what I see.

Ultra-conservative people exist everywhere.
