That's good news. The present method may have been better than the earlier method but it is prone to rigging. It has been rigged a number of times in the past (what with all the top channel bosses as part of the BARC team).
There was a proposal that ALL settop boxes would have a chip based feedback system. That would ensure that rigging would be made much more difficult, if not impossible.
Just check the "people behind BARC" in their "About" column and you will notice top executives among various channels are a part of it.

It is strange that a body which is supposed to give neutral feedback about people watching different channels has all top executives of the channels themselves as executive members of BARC. How can this panel ever be neutral?

In US Nielsen's is the provider of all data. It is supposed to be very comprehensive but even that is now considered incorrect as present watchers are not just watching on standard TVs but also on PC/Laptops/mobiles.
My question is still the same. Do we watch a channel or a program because it has high trp ? The answer is NO. We watch it only if we like it. For e.g. Sur Nava...which never had any TRP and most of us watched every episode of it. And MNB has highest trp for more than 3 years but we hate it most and gave up watching it long back. So who cares what TRP is ?

Trp is banned for only news channels not for other channels
They cant afford to ban data of other channels as currently mega events like KBC,IPL,BIGG BOSS are going on various channels and advertisers needs data of this events to spend money on ads
Plus other channels data will come today sharp at 1pm .....data is delayed because of powercut in mumbai

u r absolutely right.bt trp is imp for channels.
see why mnb is still running bcoz as u said it is at 1 since 3 years.bt see tjr as its out of d race ,its going of air,that means trp us imp acc to channep point of view.we never watch any show based on its trp.
i never used to see also ratings.bt rohini hattangadi had given expaliantion for long run of char divas.she said ki channel cha ek certain expected trp asto ki after 1 year evadha hava etc.evadhi channels ali,8 la evadya new serials alya pan char divas chya expected trp madhe farak padala nahi.jya divashi ha trp channel la expected yenar nahi.tya divashi hi serial iff air jail ani tasach zal,after kavita lad left d show,within 6 months ha show off air gela.
mhanje jar mnb off air jayala hav asel tar min 2 months ti out if race havi.
so trp is imp for channel and for us karan apalyala nako asaaleli serial off air jate😆
