Part 2

"Geet kaha chali gayi thi ?'' Pammi, Geet's sister in law enquired. She was about to enter the room, carrying a big tray filled with tea and snacks. When her eyes fell on Geet whom their whole clan had been looking for, just a few minutes earlier. Every eye in the room suddenly turned to Geet owing to the loud voice of Pammi. Fixed. Awaiting an answer. For a moment silence could be heard. Sweat broke at Geet's feet. She had been so engrossed in Randeep that it skipped her mind that she need to answer her absence.

Her entire family had gathered in Moninder’s room. It wasn't a small room but the numbers of folks occupied it, made it look small and congested..

She had been missing for about an hour. She slowly looked up, her eyes collided with Maan sitting amid her family. She immediately looked down. What is he doing here? In my papaji's room.

"Bhabhi sab yaha?" Geet asked, instead of answering. Taking the tray from Pammi And her family got busy in their previous discussion. That's the benefit of having an extended gathering, people hardly focus on one topic. Segueing is no big deal. She thanks her stars.

"Woh kya hain na Maanji keh rahe the papaji ke pass baithne ko to hum sab bhi chale aye" pammi said smiling, looking at her sister in law who seemed to be checking out her husband from the corner of her eye.

"Geet raat mein thodi der bhi lights on nahi rakhne di, kya Geet.."

Geet flustered looked at her "toh din mein aise chupke chupke nahi dekh na padta", pammi whispered, mischievously "tch tch.."

"Aisa kuch nahi...bhabhi", Geet meekly protested but Pammi dragged her inside. Geet felt blood rushed to her cheeks burning them, she looked down. Don't know where to look and uncomfortable with Pammi's insinuation.

Geet looked over her shoulder at Maan. Hurriedly kept the tray in front of Maan at bed beside papaji and came to stand by the foot of the bed.

Maan had been helping Moninder to sit up. Adjusting the pillow at his back. She had not expected him to look after her papaji. Not MAAN. Not the man she barely knew, who had not spent more than a few hours with her. One who had not spared a single glance at his newly wedded wife. Perhaps a disinterested man in her who left her at their wedding night, despite all the flaws she could count, admiration or respect managed to creep in her heart, Silently and stealthily without her knowledge. As the only daughter of her parents geet wished her husband to take care and respect her parents.

A warmth settled in her. Her family seemed happy. She looked around the room. Darji sat on the sofa talking to Maan about his work. Other end of the sofa was occupied by tauji. Brij veerji standing beside darji as usual listening, now and then filling in. Moninder was lying half sitting his back supported on the bed rest. Taiji and Rajji had been standing near the headrest of the bed. Tittoo was busy with mobile. All happy. She could feel it in the air.

She hadn't expected him to come here to pick her up from Hoshiarpur. She thought he was forced to marry her.

But his sudden arrival at her natal home had not only surprised her but mutilated her previous assumptions. What if he happily married her. What if he seeks a wife in her or his future love. Or he already loves her just because she is his wife.

She cringed at the thought of cheating her husband. A part of her had rejoiced on Maan's unannounced sabbatical. It made her feel less guilty. She clutched her duppatta Feeling queasy. She felt too ashamed and guilty to love Randeep while married to Maan.The few moments of reprieve and solace in the arm of Randeep seems like a crime now. She burned in self mortification.

Few minutes earlier the eyes which had admired Maan, got downcasted in shame

“Geet...Pammi squeezed her lightly bringing her back. “Kaha kho gayi?”

Moninder was calling her for sometime now to sit with him before she leaves. Her not responding to Moninder's call has grabbed everyone 's attention.

"Kya hua?"

It was darji. He had noticed geet wasn't herself. He wasn't willing to call it out to his dying son that Geet isn't happy with the marriage. He could see on the girl's face how it looked sullen her usual chirpy face hadn't smiled since she had arrived here.

She slightly shook her head and settled beside Moninder, opposite to Maan. If She had tried to speak a word she would have cried. She kept her eyes downcasted caressing her father's hand which had swelled slightly owing to the cannula inserted inside his veins.

Maan could now see her clearly. The moment she had entered the room his eyes never left her beloved sight. Her beautiful soft white skin glowed with the vermilion adoring her partition. A small stone bindi shone between her eyebrows. Her small cute nose and plump lips could be blamed for her radiant innocence and those deep sharp doe eyes downcasted. Reluctant to hold his gaze. Look stressed and lost.

Ahh their wedding night sans him. That's why I wasn't willing to marry. That could be the reason to put ANY girl off. Uff... how am i gonna make it to her, he sighed inwardly.

"Jijaji didi ko bad mein ghoor lena...ab aap ki hain"

The room revervated with laughter. Perhaps he had stared, his wife too long in trance.

Their laughter felt like thousands of needles pricking her at raw nerve. She felt sick. Queasy. Her eyes filled up. The Prospect of a loving husband seems like a punishment to her. Suddenly all her guilt and pain morphed into rage. She took a deep and looked up to glare at Maan.

He wasn't there. Confused, she looked at Rajji, questioning.

"Lo inhe pata hi nahi chala, aap bhi khoi hui thi"

The giggles and laughter which had not subsided fully due to Rajji's initial remarks reiterated.

"Bas kar Rajji" Moninder said smiling. Seeing Maan and Geet in love and happy together his elation knew no bound. His sunken eyes glowed and his face relaxed at his slightest doubt that Geet wasn't happy with the marriage died down.

He caresses Geet's head lovingly. "Phone aaya hain, varende mein hain"

Geet side hugged her father, silently promising herself to keep her family happy.

Thank you for the lovely update. Maan is obviously besotted with Geet. I don’t think he is in love with anyone else. Let’s hope Geet’s guilt will make her keep away from Randeep and forget her first love before it creates a big misunderstanding. Maan will be very hurt.
