Bollywood is no copycat
Yash Chopra asserts that original scripts and a corporate culture have made the Indian film industry full-fledged
Veteran film-maker Yash Chopra was quite a busy man at the recently held FICCI Frames 08, Asia's biggest global convention on the business of entertainment. The septuagenarian, who is the chairman of FICCI entertainment committee described how the Indian film industry had benefited from FICCI's initiatives. "FICCI has helped the Indian motion picture industry. It has been easier to shoot at foreign locales as the procedures have become easier. We have achieved the status of a being a full-fledged industry. We have become more professional with the inclusion of the corporate culture. The emergence of animation movies is also exciting," he said.
Upbeat about his upcoming movie Tashan directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, he said, "We are confident about this movie. The look and styling (Aki Narula) has been appreciated. All the actors—Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor—have put in their best efforts."
Reportedly, Yash Raj Films is also planning to launch television channels. When asked about it he said, "We are still developing the content. This is not the right time to talk about it."
Also, when quizzed about Indian films being 'inspired' by Hollywood he disagreed. "I don't think so. This is your perception. We have made brilliant and original movies of late like Omkara, Taare Zameen Par and Chak De India." When asked whether Chak De India was inspired by the Kurt Russel starrer flick Miracle, especially the sattar minute sequence he said, "Bachche (scriptwriter Jaideep Sahani) ne ek original script likhi hai. The movie is so different."
