Chapter 26: To Become A Queen, You Have To See Yourself As One

When I entered the room, she angrily threw a bouquet of flowers.

"Uff... anger enough?" I teased her.

"I'm done with them. Next time I receive them, I am going to burn them." She exclaimed. She was frustrated.

"Acha theek hai, but at least do tell who is this admirer of yours?" I asked. I sat down on the couch. I pulled her hand and made her sit on my lap.

"Listen, hero. You're still not hundred percent healed and let's not get cuddly and injure you." She told me. I mocked a expression of pain and put my fist over my chest. She chuckled.

"Kya kahe, jaan-e-mann, is duniya mein agar aisa kuch hai jo mujhe ghayal karde toh woh hai aapki aankhen. Itni haseen ki koi bhi jaan haar de un par."

She laughed.

"Janab, apni shayari zara bacha kar rakhein. Jab theek ho jaayein tabh shayari dekhte hai." She teased back. Her smile was so beautiful. I brushed her hair softly behind her ear. It made me realize how much I missed her. I couldn't be happier than to see her here with me.

"To be honest, only thing that could hurt more is being away from you. I have spent so many years without you. Jalal had married his Heer when he was at the age of 18. So they had spent so many years together. Almost like childhood sweethearts and I had waited for you this long. Now, I don't really want to be away from you." I confessed to her. She put her arms around my neck.

"All is fine, hero. We have all our life ahead of us." She said. A clearing of throat broke out conversation. Jodha instantly got up from my lap. Jatin stood there.

"Jatin..." She almost panicked.

"Sorry for interrupting your office romance moment but you're needed." Jatin told her. He had a teasing grin on his face. Jodha hit him with the files in her hands and pushed him away. Soon, Aakash Singh entered the office while I was finishing my work.

"It seems that you're hovering around my daughter." He got to the point.

"Hovering seems like a wrong word, Mr Singh. I love your daughter. I can understand that this is a bit difficult for you but I have nothing but good intentions for her." I assured him.

"I want her to marry Vikrant. It is good for all of us." He pointed out.

"How about you leave her the decision on what to do about her own life?" I suggested. I looked at him. "If she asks me to back off, I will do so but if she wants to be with me, I'm not going to back off because you aren't pleased with this. Her decision is the one that counts."

"She has never done anything against my wishes. All her life I have told her what to do and this is one of the most important decision of her life and I have every right to decide for her."

"Just because you've given life to her doesn't mean you have the right to disregard what she wants, Mr Singh. Every creature has received free will in their life. You can't take it away from her. You have every right to suggest her what to do but to make the decision for her without taking her wish in regards is not right."

"You will understand when you have a daughter. Then you will know how much of a responsibility it is to make sure she takes the right decision. So, what is wrong if I make the right decision for her?"

"Right decision, Mr Singh? How do you know that it is the right decision for her? How do you know what you decide is the best for her?"

"Because I'm her father. I know what is best for her."

"What looks best for you may not work for her. People are different. Not everything works the same way for everyone. Just because you think it is best for her, can't exactly be the best for her."

"How is it possible that she knows what is best for her?"

"People learn from experience. If you don't let them experience, you won't let them learn yourself. You can give her shelter all your life but what is supposed to happen when she's alone? How is she supposed to deal with that when you can't reach her? She has to learn herself. Out of fear that something wrong will help, you can't cage the bird. When you love and care for a bird, it will return on its own to you for the affection stays in the heart. If a bird can understand, humans aren't so stupid as not to recognize affection when it comes the right way."

"True, Aakash, let her decide." Aditya Singh walked in. This man wasn't an easy cake. He plans like a skilled strategist. He knows exactly when to place the dice.

"Dad, don't get between this. It is my daughter. Let me decide what to do with her." Aakash Singh stopped him.

"You've done that for 25 years already, Aakash, she's old enough to decide." Aditya Singh pointed out.

Three of us then noted Jodha standing by the door. An expression on her face that was close to blowing out temper.

"You must be really lost, dad. You actually invited Arjun Khanna? I have possibly sent like hundreds of proofs as to why we shouldn't get him on the board. Yet, you're still on that decision." Jodha was really mad.

"I know what is good and what is bad." Aakash told her off.

"Exactly why you couldn't stop mom from leaving. You think only you know well and rest of us all are fools who have no minds whatsoever." Jodha was really angry. "You never think before a decision you make. Because God save us, you won't ever bother to ask for an opinion. Lovely, dad, lovely. Thanks to you, all our jobs are in trouble. Though let me make this very clear. You're blind, I'm not. I'd sooner accept that I know nothing rather than let Arjun Khanna take over his place in the board of directors."

"You don't know, Jodha. You're a child. I've been doing business for longer than you were born." Aakash commented.

"Don't make me speak, dad. It will sound insulting to you." Jodha argued.

"I am your father, mind it."

"I don't think you care, dad. If you cared about being my father, you'd have at least bothered to speak to me about my life decisions."

"So his nonsense has gotten into your head?"

"Only you'll think it is nonsense for someone else to use their head instead of following you blindly."

"Jodha, careful."

"I don't care, dad. You and I are anyway past being a regular father-daughter. Leave my life decisions to me, dad. Lest I know, I would end up like you. Divorced and suffering from a disease of not considering anyone's words."

"Jodha..." Aditya Singh stopped her. Jodha turned to him.

"Dadu, let us get this clear now and once. Do you trust me?" Jodha asked him.

"What kind of question is that?" He asked, outraged slightly.

I wanted to laugh. Junglee billi. Heer. That was definitely Heer. She wasn't used to people telling her that she's incapable.

"Question is a question, dadu."

"Of course."

"Good, because, I want to give this assurance. If anyone less capable gets the position of the chairman of the company, I'm going to challenge the decision. I own 20% of the shares of the company. I will convince the others not to agree to the anyone less worthy becoming the chairman." Jodha made it clear.

Chapter 27: Truth Would Always Surface

"Jalal, for once listen to people." Parth sighed.

"Parth, you can't possibly expect me to sit at home and do nothing. The odds that I'll escape if I'm outside is more than the chances of me escaping indoors." I argued.

"Jalal, they've tried to kill you two thrice." Parth exclaimed.

"Thrice?" I asked.

"Once when you were a child and twice in recent times."

"Parth, why do you think it is the same person?"

"I don't know for sure, Jalal. Just a feeling that it is connected."

Parth isn't wrong about his intuition. He always comes out to be right. My phone rang and I saw that it was Sakshi, Jodha's friend. I picked it up.

"Sakshi?" I asked. She doesn't ever call me.

"Is Jodha with you?" She asked.

"No. She went home after the evening. She was a little disturbed so wanted to go home. What happened?" I asked. I got up and signaled Parth to follow me. I paid for the dinner and quickly dashed towards the car. Her silence worried me.

"Her dadi just called to ask me where she was?" She explained. Parth moved his head in question.

"Jodha hasn't reached home." I told him.

"Dammit..." Parth hissed. He quickly fished his phone and started to call up someone.

"How long ago did her grandmother call you? What did she say?" I asked Sakshi.

"Just a few moments ago, her dadi called me up to ask where she was. She said 'Sakshi, where is Jodha? Is she with you? I won't scold her or anything if she's with Jalal but I just want to know where she is. I am worried about her. It is late and she hasn't returned from work.' I told her that I'll find out and tell her. Now, I'm worried. If she's not with your or me then where did she go?" Sakshi explained.

"Abdul, Nikhil, Vishal, I want you guys to get out and look for Jodha. She's missing." Parth called up our friends. "No, dude... she hasn't gotten home. Find her. Nikhil, you live nearby Khuranas right. I want you to go check is she's there."

"Sakshi, listen, call Jatin and ask him at what time did she leave her office and what time did she last speak to him. Who spoke to her last before she went home." I told Sakshi.

"Alright, I'll do that." She assured and cut the call.

"Parth, try to trace her phone location." I told him. Parth started to track the phone location.

"The location of her phone shows at Sector 28." Parth told me. I pressed on the accelerator and drove towards the location. The moment we reached there, Parth told me exact location. When we reached there, I didn't see her at all. I got out of the car and checked around and found her phone at the side of the road.

"Shit.." I exclaimed as I picked it up. I entered the password and tried to check who did she call last. It was in the afternoon for some business call I guess to some number. "Parth, look for this number."

Sakshi called me back. I picked it up.

"Hello.." I answered.

"Jalal.." I heard Jatin.

"Jalal, last Jatin heard from her was before he was leaving the office at 7 after finishing the work. Jodha had to finish a little more and hence stayed back for a while." Sakshi told me.

"She was the last one to leave the office, I called up the guard and he said that she had left office around 8:30." Jatin said.

"The number belongs to Atif Malik. He's a businessman. Some years ago his father used to work with your father then left the company and started his own." Parth told me.

"Atif Malik? He was collaborating with us on a project." Jatin told me. Parth found out details about Atif Malik. The moment my eyes fell on the photo, I was stunned.

What the hell!!!

"Okay, I'll call you back." I cut the call.

"Sharif-ud-din." Both of us exclaimed at the same time. Both of us looked at each other. He knows? The look in our eyes was same.

"Jalal, if we don't find her, it is going to be worse." Parth said. I checked what recently she was looking at and saw the sound recorder open. I played the recording.

"Atif, where the hell are you taking me?" She asked.

"Relax, Heer, relax. I'm not going to hurt you at all. All I want is to take you with me." He answered. I clenched my fists.

"Stop the car, Atif. I don't have time to play games with you. I want to get out now." She made herself clear.

"Heer, what do you exactly see in Jalal? Even then he was not worthy of you and even now he's not. He's never even tried to look for you the way I have tried to look for you. He just waited but I had looked for you all my life. You are only mine. You were supposed to be mine then and you should be mine now. Then as well he stole you from me and even now he took you away from me. What does he even have that I don't?" He was angry.

"Listen, I'm not answerable to you. I want to get out now, Atif. I swear." Jodha told him.

"Sweetheart, your family would think you're with Jalal. Your friends will cover for you to save you so technically, no one will ever know where you are. You and I will soon be together forever." Atif told her.

"Get your hands off me, Atif. I'll rather die than let anyone touch me without my consent." She shouted. He laughed. I now wanted to kill him so badly. I gripped the steering wheel tightly.

"I guess that hasn't changed about you. That pride you lived immersed in." He teased her. "That is what I like the most about you."

"Parth, find him. I don't where the hell he's hiding. Even if it in hell, I'm going to dig him out and kill him myself."

Oh, he's back from the hospital. There is almost four days difference between when he was taken to the hospital and when he goes to see her at her office.
