Even Airtel is finding it difficult to tackle jio onslaught. Jio has declared postpaid plans with NF, AP and hotstar subscription to which Airtel has no answer yet.

If Vodafone had paid 28000 cr they would have gone bankrupt.

Anyone following the Vodafone Tax case?

Major victory for Vodafone in International tribunal against India. Big blow to this "retrospective tax" concept in India. Actually a blessing in disguise for India. SC had overturned the Tax authorities claims of retrospective tax on vodafone but the parliament made changes in the law in 2012 to bypass SC ruling and demanded the tax to be paid. Vodafone then went to the International Tribunal and have today won the case.

No big companies will opt to enter India if taxes and policies are constantly changed and that too with retrospective effect. With this humiliation, hopefully, no govt. will again think of such weird policies.

This was going for almost 10 years, right?

What did we get by going all the way...now they have to pay legal fees...facepalm

Hope you guys made some gains in stock market with this verdict.

Agreed Jio is out to kill all competition. Vodafone will struggle to survive. But important is that govt.s (any political party backed) in future will, hopefully, not be foolish enough to make such irrational policy changes or no company will come to India.

Vodafone won the case in SC in 2012 and the then govt tweaked the laws to bypass SC ruling and Vodafone went to the international tribunal in 2014.

I am not into shares. I am from the "safe" old guard ....... FD's, RD's PO savings etc.

@Bold - That's because interest rates are way better than here.

Was it Congress govt that tweaked the laws to bypass SC ruling and how did parliament pass that bill?

I remember when WTO was formed many companies didn't want to come to India for the same reason. While the entire world was moving on and implementing new intellectual property laws, India was still stuck in 60s and 70s.

It was Pranabda who tweaked the income tax act in UPA2 so that it bypassed the SC which had ruled in favour of Vodafone.
