Bondita was in the study, buring the midnight lamp because it was her final year exams in a week or so. It was a silent night, silent than usual. One could easily hear the tick tock of the wall clock. The lady in her early twenties was deeply immersed in her text books, trying to grasp as much as possible. The door of the study clicked open, startling Bondita so much that she started to shiver for a good ten second. Aniruddh looked at her shocked and pale face and couldn't understand the reason for such expression. "Aapne toh mujhe dara hi diya." Bondita said and heaved a sigh of relief upon seeing her Pati Babu. "Maine aisa kya kar diya." Aniruddh asked, almost in a defensive tone. "Kuch nahi." Bondita said and continued to study. Aniruddh wasn't satisfied with her answer and so he went over to the study table and looked at her, frankly, stared at her. "Kya?" Bondita asked, not able to concentrate on her books knowing very well that Aniruddh was staring her, with questions in his head. "Kya hua? Tum aise kyun Darr gayi?" He asked, genuinely concerned about her. "Bachpan mein band kamre se darr lagta tha, ab wahi kamra khulne se." Bondita said, nonchalantly. "Kya matlab?" Aniruddh asked. It was new for him to know that she's scared of him. "Tum mujhse darti ho?" He asked, pain very much audible in his voice. "Nahi! Par aapke avishwas se toh Zaroor darr lagta hai." Bondita said, with a rather fake smile on her face. No, they didn't have a fight or anything in recent. She was just reminded of few wounds that no sorry or anything for that matter could heal. "Kya?" Aniruddh asked, shocked at her confession as if he didn't know what she was talking about. "Band kamre mein insaan bebas ho jaata hai par usko uss kamre mein band karne wala insaan toh andha!" Bondita said, and got up from the chair, picked up her books and proceeded to exit the study. "Shubh Raatri Barrister Babu." She said, without looking at him but her eyes were welled up with few tears. She didn't know what happened to her today but just like I said, few wounds just leave a scar that pains a lot on being touched. Aniruddh saw her go, his vision almost blurred with the water in her eyes.
