Chapter 48: Aaoge jab tum saajna
A/N: Just a very rainy day today out here. Reminded me of this chapter of the locket.
I AM NOT POSTING THE WHOLE FF as I would be crazy to do that.
Just sharing of something I loved writing. Sort of a walk in the past. Hope you enjoy it.
*** FLASHBACK ***
“Happy Birthday”, he whispers as he kisses my cheeks gently. Before I can control my blushes, he kisses first my left eye and then my right eye followed by a kiss to my forehead and then my chin. His breath is warming my face and he looks into my eyes. Thud!
His eyes are a pool of dark chocolate and as I lower my eyes a bit my gaze falls on his perfect mouth. Out of impulse or desire, I don’t even know what, I reach a bit towards him and his lips come down to meet mine. The sensation is unlike anything I have felt before. His hands are cupping my face as his lips press harder into mine. I don’t even know what to do. I just let him lead and my hands reach around him to hold him not wanting him to stop. His lips approach my lower lip taking it into his mouth which is warm and soft and demanding. I forget to breathe.
I am lost in a vortex of sensations that I have never felt before. Of their own accord, my hands have found a mission of touching him. He has a thin black vest on and I can feel the taut muscles in his back. As the painful thudding of my heart reaches a crescendo, my hands roam his back.
He abandons the lower lip, giving the same treatment to the upper now, dipping his tongue into my mouth. My legs feel like jelly and I can barely stand so I break away from the kiss. Turning away to catch my breath, I stand at the window.
Aaj toh main Maan thud se kahi mar na jaaoon!
barasti hai baarish ya khuda ka noor hai
hai yeh paani ya dil ka sukoon hai
ke bechaini hai dil mein, kaise bataun tujh se yeh baat
pani baandh raha hai sama, ki bas aaj keh hi dun dil ki baat
(shaiyari from Ritzy09)
“Mishti…”, he comes to stand behind me placing his palm on my waist, holding my back to his chest.
“Woh kya hota hai?”, I try to squirm away but he holds me firmly to him. I turn my face to look at him.
“Bengali word hai .. Mishti means sweet”, his eyes are smoldering now, “tumhara birthday hai, toh maine kuch mishti le li tum se”. His eyes fall on my lips and I color a burning red in my cheeks as I understand what he means. I escape from his hands and run towards the conference room.
“Mishti… suno toh”, he follows me catching me quickly holding my shoulders with his hands, “… tum mujh se dur mat jao. Mujhe accha nahi lagta”.
I turn around into his embrace, “Main abhi change kar ke aati hu”.
He hugs me to himself “Jaldi aana. Mujhe tum se kuch baat karni hai”.
I nod. Changing quickly, I hand him over his shirt which he slides over his face… “Mishti…” he says, teasing me.
I shyly pout and head over to the window where he quickly follows, tucking in his shirt as he reaches me standing behind me. His hands are on either side of me, his chin on my shoulder as he looks out of the window with me. The rain has stopped a while ago and the night is clear once again.
“Giit, I want to tell you…”, he starts when I put my hand to his mouth.
“Ms. Iyer!”. He raises his eyes and I drag him to one side away from the window and then point my finger to show him.
Ms. Iyer, the principal and a couple of people are headed straight for the library where we are. I start shaking in fear.
“Maan, agar she finds me here with you, I will be dead. Kya karu, kya karu?” I start to panic fearing the strict Ms. Iyer.
“Giit, relax. Just tell her you were stuck here because of the rain. I will stay back in the conference room. Don’t lock the door when you leave. I will lock it shut when I leave after all of you have gone. Go to the door Giit” I try to relax but the loud knock on the door scares me.
He gives me a last tight hug and a small peck on the lips “I will wait for you in the party. Jaldi aana”.
“I have to go to HP to see Darji but I will be back before the party”, I promise him. I touch his cheek fondly before I go to answer the door while he goes inside the dark conference room. I head to the door to open it.
“Geet, are you okay?” Ms. Iyer hugs me to herself choking my breath “… I was so worried when you did not come. Someone said that a tree had fallen near the library and someone else said that they had seen you coming here to return books”.
“Ma’am it was raining heavily so I stayed here to be safe”, I explain timidly.
“Good, good thinking. Ab chalo, it is very late as it is. Thank Principal Sir also. I woke him up too cause I was scared”.
I thank everyone and they disperse. Ms. Iyer steps out and I tell her I forgot something and rush in. As I make my way in, I feel the tug of his arms which pull me to him.
“Goodnight Giit”, he whispers kissing me softly.

Some kisses are meant to last a lifetime or so it seemed right now.
She had come to Hoshiarpur intending to work on the final presentations for her MBA. It was a hot, grey day and the overlying clouds were threatening to burst any moment. She raced up to the terrace to pick up the clothes hanging out to dry. Once she had all of them, she stood in the shade of the half covered terrace watching the rain clouds that were hanging low over the sky. The rains always reminded her of Maan.
It had been almost two years that he was gone now. Adi had told Pinky that Maan’s grandmother had wanted Maan to do his MBA from a London university. That was probably what he wanted to tell her when he left. It was one of the things that hurt the most; that they did not get to say their proper goodbyes. She was not able to keep her promise to him and come for the farewell party on the last day of college.
She had come home for her birthday like she had told Maan she would. That day had just not been her day. Her purse had been stolen when she had entered the bus with Pinky. Luckily she had her ticket in her hand and there was only a little bit of money in the purse so she did not lose much.
The same storm that had wreaked havoc in Delhi on the night she had spent with him in the library had also made a mess of the roads in Hoshiarpur and the vicinities. When she and Pinky had tried to return to Delhi for the farewell party, the bus had stopped halfway and had to return because of flooded streets and roads that had washed away. They had desperately tried every means possible but nothing could bring them back until a few days later. Knowing that he was already gone made going to Delhi unnecessary. She had stayed back home.
She watched the first drops of rain fall on the sizzling terrace now. It had been a hot muggy day. Dumping the clothes on the nearby chair, she ran out from the shelter onto the open terrace. As the first drop of cool rain touched her cheek, it took her back to him.
Aaoge jab tum saajanaa
when you come, beloved…
aaoge jab tum saajanaa aangana phool khilenge
when you come, beloved, the courtyard will be in full bloom.
barsegaa saawan barsegaa saawan jhuum jhuumke
the rain will come down in torrents.
do dil aise milenge
this is how the two hearts will meet.
aaoge jab tum saajanaa aangana phool khilenge
when you come, beloved, the courtyard will be in full bloom.
“Geet puttar! Aaj phir baarish mein bheeg gayi tu? Kya ho raha hai tujhe? Pehle toh kabhi aisse nahi karti thi…”, Darji kept rubbing the towel in her hair.
She had come in and changed but Darji had found her out. She hid her face with her hair not able to meet his eyes.
How could she open her eyes and look him in the face? How would she tell him that every drop of rain that touched her reminded her of Maan? That she raised her face and let the rain kiss her cheeks, her eyes, everywhere… because until he came back that was the only way to feel him.
The agony of waiting for your love in the rain was as blissful as it was painful. The memory of his burning gaze on her warmed her even in the cold blast of the rains.
nainaa tere kajaraa re hain
oh, your eyes are dark and lined.
naino pe hum dil haare hain
i have lost my heart on these eyes.
anjaane hi tere naino ne, waade kiye kaiyi saare hain
unknowingly your eyes have made lot of promises
saanson ki lay madham chalein, tose kahe
the flame of my breaths is flowing slowly, they are telling you
barsegaa saawan barsegaa saawan jhuum jhuumke
the rain will come down in torrents.
do dil aise milenge
this is how the two hearts will meet.
aaoge jab tum saajanaa aangana phool khilenge
when you come, beloved, the courtyard will be in full bloom.
The moon made its appearance in the window as she made her way to bed. The handsome man who was never far from her thoughts made his way in it again. She had lived every day just like he wanted, always smiling, never sad; only because he did not like to see her sad.
She gazed at the moon, remembering the night they had stood together and watched it.
chanda ko taaku raaton mein
i am staring at the moon at night
hai zindagi tere haanthon mein
my life is in your hands
palko pe jhilmil taare hain
on my eyelashes there are twinkling stars of my tears
aanaa bhari barsaato mein
please come in when the rains get started
sapno kaa jahaan hogaa khilaa khilaa
the dream world will bloom
barsegaa saawan barsegaa saawan jhuum jhuumke
the rain will come down in torrents.
do dil aise milenge
this is how the two hearts will meet.
aangana phuul khilenge
the courtyard will be in full bloom.
Kissing the locket like she did every night before going to sleep, she fell asleep remembering their last moments together. All the days and months of missing him, longing for him and everything she hid in her heart would soon end.
He would be back soon. Her Maan. Hers.
Aaoge jab tum saajanaa aangana phool khilenge
when you come, beloved, the courtyard will be in full bloom.
