I think Farhan Akhtar is one of the few directors who has uniquely positioned himself in the industry. He has created this image of himself as a multi-tasking, cerebral artist who is equally at home in the acting space as well as directorial space; also someone who differs from his filmmaking contemporaries through self-branding as well as ability to stay in the limelight.
His 'Dil Chahta Hai' is a cult film, and redefined friendship for an entire generation. His 'Lakshya' is an underrated gem, and boasts of Hrithik's finest performance. His 'Don'was a slick, well-made masala film which garnered positive audience reaction. Don2 in my opinion is a good heist movie.( Definitely way better than Happy new year).
Neither candyfloss like Karan Johar/Adiya Chopra films nor grittily realistic like Anurag Kashyap, Farhan chose middle-of-the-road cinema as his signature style. I like his panache and style, which are in sync with the fact that his first two films had no hero, no larger-than-life characters, no contrived plot devices.
Do you like his movies?
