I don't know if its the same in Hindi as Urdu, but the 'r' that people replace with 'd' are pronounced with a hard r (the letter: ڑ instead of the arabic: ر), in words like khirki and dharak.
Whether people spell it with a d or an r I think is actually just a matter of personal preference. There's no hard rule for writing hindi and urdu in roman.

Like for khidki we write d only instead of Khirki coz that's how it is pronounced
It's Khidki, that's how one pronounces window in Hindi
U can give more examples so I will be able to explain better :)
I think it's a matter of choice. People pronounce and write as they wish
yeah I write with R because that D is hard to pronounce for english speakers like me😆
