No, of course not. Popular actors are any day bigger brands than directors or producers.

Think about it this way- if alia/varun or karan sell a product, who will people follow or buy from? Obviously the actors.

Alia and Varun are better known but Karan Johar has more power.

Silly comparison. Kjo is a way bigger personality in Bollywood than those 2 stars he produced.

Brand value is not everything about staring in commercials

Karan was a hit director and a producing powerhouse. He doesn't need to direct, just hire the best directors, actors, package it, sell it and make money, he does create a lot of jobs and is very, very successful.

I think his KWK is probably over, but otherwise in a year or two he will be back. The only thing that can derail him is if he has mutiple flops -then yeah he will go the way of other production houses that faded away.

Ekta kapoor in my opinion is far more powerful-she has her hand in everything-TV, movies and is very successful and is far more insulated against a few flops.
