While watching "Indian Matchmaking", a show on Netflix, I realized something important. For those who haven't watched it, there's a single mom Rupam seeking help from a matchmaker for her second marriage. It was uncomfortable to watch her interact with her dad while seeing the biodatas of prospective grooms. He kept warning her not to make a hasty decision as she had messed up the first time. It looked like he kind of blamed her for choosing a wrong guy the first time and now she has to be extra cautious.
Marriage is a gamble right? Love marriage or arranged marriage, doesn't matter. It can be a smooth ride, or there could be minor hiccups, or it could be a disaster from the very beginning, or it could have it's ups and downs.
Single guys/girls are constantly pressurized to get married but if you think of divorcees then what they go through is worse. There's the baggage of past, then the constant scrutiny of near and dear ones, uncertain future etc.
So, coming to the topic there are many unhappy marriages in Bollywood and I always used to judge the women/men for staying on and not having a backbone. But maybe there's more to it? Maybe they know what they can expect if they choose to walk out? Maybe a cheating spouse is better than an uncertain future and single life...maybe a known devil is better than an unknown angel?
What do you guys think?
