This is not even a comparable situation. All of those films you mentioned released pre-covid time. Dil Bechara was also scheduled for a theatrical release but due to covid, they had to opt for OTT to manage costs. Akshay and Ajay's films are releasing on OTT as well so this has nothing to do with Sushant.
I'm talking about pre-covid time only. There were a lot of speculations during November that they were releasing the film online instead of theatre release. According to articles, they later chose a theatrical release for 8th May
While speculation was rife over whether Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi starrer Dil Bechara (earlier titled Kizzie Aur Manny) would only have a web release like Sushant’s last film Drive, the makers of the film Fox Star Studios have announced that the film will now release in the big screen.
“Earlier this year, another film of Fox called Lootcase starring Kunal Kemmu had also been allocated a web release, but the big boss intervened and asked for a theatrical release. Similarly, they didn’t want this prestigious film, to come out on a digital platform,” says a source.
How true the news was I don't know but I'm just mentioning what I read in the forum when the film started getting embroiled in a lot of controversies. They also kept changing the release date mutliple times so who knows.
All I know is that Sushant deserves all the love and appreciation in the world and it screws me up thinking that he's not here to see this, or that he wouldn't have received probably 1/4 this kind of love had he been alive today. It's just so, so unfair, no paragraph could express this into words.

They changed it only once. From 29th nov 2019 to 8th may 2020

How can I watch in USA ?
Preferably without paying 😆
Hotstar is streaming for free as a tribute to SSR
Watched the movie with high expectations but totally disappointed. Both, SSR and Sanjana did great job but the whole movie was meh. I almost slept midway through the movie.
Though the movie had its moments, it just didn't draw me in. Nothing...not the characters, the script, not even the music. It was short but I still felt it dragged. Totally meh.
However, it being Sushant's last film I wouldn't have missed it for the world🥺
