Amazing chapter, Sam! I was waiting for you update but I know you put in a lot of work for it so I waited patiently...it was worth it! I love how beautifully you described Suman's turmoil. The story is getting very interesting...I like the crime mystery backdrop you have. Can't wait to hear Shravan's side of the story! Nice job! đđź
Thanks all for your comments and likes. Although I would love to write Suman & Shravan to resolve their differences and Shravan to open up about his past and Devika angle but there are few things which need to be rounded before their relationship can proceed to the next level and the investigations as well. Bear with me for few more chapters because as a writer I don't want to rush through and do injustice to any of them.
@Lavy : I saw you ready my EKDV1 writings as well. I had forgotten about them but thanks for reminding me about them. There was a story "Mirage" which I had written but could not complete as the forum got closed. Hopefully I will be able to complete in some other place and send the links as well.

Cristiano and Me was a beautiful fluff writing! I loved to read about jealous Shravanđ
Abhorrence was beautifully written! It was the perfect blend of emotions. â¤ď¸

I loved the update Sam! All your chapters are high on action, adventure and story! It was so good to read Suman's thoughts and hurt. I love it when the writer pours out a character's inner turmoils on paper. Makes it more human.
And as Lavy said, the amount of intricacies and detailings that go into each chapter is highly creditable! Always a pleasure reading your works!đ¤

Chap- 15 Lost in Dunes
Sash had informed Suman that their target in Karwar is going to be a person called Emanuel Fernandez will be referred to as Target E .From their informers they have got to know that people around speak in hushed tones as he is a local goon but they are aware of some fishy activities that go on. The challenge is the village and the villagers around worship him so it will be difficult to get close or question or get some information about him .The link with the truck driver and the link with the guys who attacked Suvan in Chennai to Target E as his childhood buddies in Karwar and they being somewhere related to this trade is all too good to ignore. Suman had got an early start as usual as she was going to assist Sash for their Karwar trip and its going to be important as the person concerned seems to be a local leader and its going to be difficult to snoop around. She expected Shravan and Saheb to be in office as they were leaving late evening but none of them seemed to be around. It was almost lunchtime when Saheb walked in but still there was no sign of Shravan and Suman was becoming curious about it although she chided herself for feeling this way.Suman had a tinge of worry thinking why Shravan did not turn up. It was already late afternoon and Suman was seated in the cafeteria having her coffee when Saheb walked in. Seeing him Suman asked âAre you guys not going todayâ. Saheb said âYes, will be leaving in a short while but before that can I have a cup of coffee with youâ. Suman was surprised by the way he asked and she with a surprised look on her face said âYes, sureâ. Saheb did not beat around the bush and directly came to the point âSuman what is going on between you and Shravan. Is it more than what meets the eye , is it more than just friendshipâ. Suman almost choked on the coffee on hearing Saheb, she had a great equation with him as a colleague, but they had never spoke this personal. Looking at her Saheb realized the same and said âSuman I am not intruding into your personal space but Shravan , I mean I have known him for few weeks or maybe a month but he is a great guy to have as a friend. He is funny, trustworthy, brave, down to earth and I do not want him to get hurt. I have been working with you for a long time and known you as great person to work with, to learn from so I cannot see you get hurt as well. Yesterday Shravan was drunk and he had called me from the bar as he was unable to walk. We have gone out few times to bars and had a nice time , but never had I seen Shravan in this state. Yesterday he was so drunk that he could not stand properly and he did not enjoy, he had simply got drunk to forget something akin to pain. I had to almost lift him to his bed and when I had dumped him on the bed and put a pillow behind his head I had heard a whimper saying Suman doesnât care about me and I know he is very sad and looks like it has got to do something with you. I do not want to know what it is but whatever it is sort it out. I had seen Shravan looking at you and the looks told me that he liked you but I have seen many men who came in falling for you,but you were never interested. Shravan is different and I can see it in you, he affects you a lot. I do not know when something went wrong between you both but I can see the forlorn look that you have when Shravan is not looking at you.âSaheb said it all in one go and released his breath not knowing that he was holding it till now.
Suman continued stirring the coffee which probably had run horribly cold but refused to look up. Saheb then sighed and held Sumanâs hands and said âSuman I might be pot-bellied, dark complexioned, with a receding hairline whom no girl wants to have as her husband but that does not mean I do not know what is to be in love.I might not ever experience that but you are lucky , you have got someone who loves you and adores you. Donât let it go. Itâs a wonderful feeling so let go of yourself and immerse yourself in the feeling. You cannot control what will happen tomorrow but why let go of some memories which are worth a lifetime for fear of what will happen tomorrowâ. Suman smiled and said âSaheb I have today seen a new side of you, but you are missing something, Devika.â. Saheb smiled and pulled away his hands pushed back the wrought iron chair and said âyou have just do one thing ask him and he will tell you. Remember this is a relationship not an investigation. You donât need proofs, you need trustâ. He smiled and finally walked away leaving Suman with her thoughts.
Sumanâs heart quipped âsee I told you he loves you. Did you need Saheb to tell you thatâ. Sumanâs mind argued âAnd what about Devikaâ. Her heart again quipped âDo people not have a past, a present. Who knows Devika feels for Shravan but maybe he does not? Did you ever see him or hear him talking to Devika in quite corners or in whispers behind closed doorsâ? Sumanâs mind said âHow typical b-grade movie types are your locations?â Sumanâs heart smiled and said âYou are so good at investigation and understanding clues, put your investigator mind on and thinkâ. Sumanâs mind said âSo you admit that you need me to understand themâ. Sumanâs heart said âYes as long as you donât mess it up againâ. Shravan &Saheb had left for Rajasthan and Suman was having a hard time. She wanted to see him, speak to him and most importantly say sorry to him. One week seemed to be like ages for her. Shravan too was having a hard time, he was angry with Suman but he had understood he could never hate Suman and he missed her badly. On top of it the local NCB was not a helpful lot. He and Saheb had spoke to them a couple of times and they were more interested in getting more information than giving. It appeared as if Shravan & Saheb were going to take away their food right from under their nose. He was getting frustrated now. Shravan and Saheb were having a tough time snooping and gathering information as the entire village on the border region seemed to be wrapped up in the trade so nobody was ready to give any information. They had managed to get some support and inputs from the local NCB and had learnt about the opium cultivation in and around beyond the licensed limits which was sold illegally. Some of the NGOs were trying to get them onto alternate crops but they were frequently threatened and killed by drug lords who want their work to continue.
Saheb had finally managed to find a very old friend who runs a private detective agency and he was able to help and get some support for them. They had finally met Nimra , a transgender who was part of the trade but had good connections and was ready to help them. They had understood that there were different suppliers for different drug lords and each had its own sources. Nimra said that the border transfers are generally co-ordinated by a separate group for all suppliers although there were few who operate small time but mainly the entire business operates like a cartel. Since Shravan & Saheb were specifically looking for their targetâs connections they enquired mainly about supplies to the maoist belt and southern region. Nimra updated them that to the rural areas of India the supply might be more of opium which is locally cultivated and available cheap from Afghanistan but for the cities the supply is mainly of heroine which is more expensive. Nimra was not sure but there was one person Kishwar Singh who operated few supply routes and probably he supplies to the South. Nimra promised to get more information and come back. Nimra was sharp and resourceful and as Shravan had figured out because of the time spent in the trade. Nimra was left in the train by her parents when they found out that she was a transgender and then she had landed up somehow in Rajasthan where she had managed to befriend the local orphaned kids and landed in one of the shanties. Life had not been easy for her as she was shunned and ridiculed, sexually exploited by all but the fire to do something and wield power had kept burning in her. She had met a small-time drug lord who had been attracted to her and she had found her ambitions soaring. She became his confidant and mistress and once he was killed by some gang-member she took over his small business. She did not become the big druglord but managed his business well. Her motivation for helping the NCB was purely business as she knew if they can catch the big fish it will pave the wayfor her to expand her business and she had struck a deal with NCB on the same lines. Two days later Nimra had got back to Shravan and Saheb confirming that Kishwar Singh had indeed dealings with some parties in the Southern route including Odisha. Although as per the norm he does not know who the materials are supplied to because he only gets it from border to the hands of the middlemen who then transport it till, they land in the hands of the pushers but he seems to be the man. The following day after the sun was down and the darkness of the night had settled it Nimra, Shravan and Saheb had setout for the targetâs hideout armed with their service guns. Nimra had showed some pictures which she had managed to collate, and she had handed over to Shravan who could identify one of the faces there. Shravan knew he had uncanny ability to remember faces once he has his eyes on them. He quickly fished out his phone and sent the photo to Sash to check if he is the same man that he is thinking about . After a while Sash confirmed back that indeed the man in the picture is the one in one of the briefings they had received about SR Reddy. They had been shown lot of pictures, background, mannerisms of their main target and in one of the photos this man was there which confirmed that the NCB team was on the righttrack. It was a huge largely barren property on the outskirts of the district where there was an old factory which was now abandoned. There were shrubs around, but they were not dense enough which Shravan thought is not good as they will not have much place to hide if they were caught but if they were discreet and careful they could manage to camouflage themselves among the little bushes and buildings around. Saheb was supposed to wait in the outer fringes of the property and call police in case of any danger and he would keep an eye on them through the binoculars and alert them in case he saw some movement.
Days had become longer and nights lonely for Suman as she waited for the week to be over. She had called Saheb few times to enquire about if they were fine and Saheb had quite a few times understood and said loudly âShravan is fine and he is carefulâ. Suman wanted to hear Shravan but somehow she did not have the confidence to call him and Shravan was still angry with Suman. Saheb had felt bad for Suman and told Shravan âDonât let your ego come in between both of you, you will not know what you are missing out till its very lateâ. Shravan smiled knowing his friend only wished well for him but he also knew that he wanted to talk to Suman too once he is back and this time he will not let her have her way even if it means lifting her and throwing her over his shoulders and taking her to a room and locking her up till she listened. He laughed thinking about the scenario and ran his hand frustrated along his rough hair which he seems to do often when he is thinking about Suman.Suman did not know whether to be happy or sad that Shravan was comingback in 2 days and she will have complete two days before she lives with Sash for Karwar. A part of her was happy as she missed Shravan and the other part recollected how he had not spoken to her till now. She walked into the office to see a tensed Subbu, Sash and Rajesh and it was alarming. Something was terribly wrong and she could feel it in her bones and as she was about to ask Rajesh told her that Shravan has been missing since last night.
Saheb,Shravan and Nimra were doing some snooping at the supplier Kishwar Singhâs hideout and they had been caught. Apparently, Saheb was waiting outside when he noticed few men coming suddenly from nowhere and catching Nimra and wrapping her in a blanket and taking her away. Shravan had broken into a run and managed to dodge the men but given the size of the property and the men behind his wheels it will be seconds before he must have got run out and captured. Saheb had seen it through his binoculars and had immediately called the police and run for his safety. The police have come to the property done a search and left. They had found nobody and anything in the property and refused to believe Saheb so he had called up Subbu and Sash for help. Rajesh had not left out anything as he narrated the events.
