I think it was. For Duryodhan it definitely was 100% selfless for Karna I have my reservations but still the epic writing does suggest probably it was

I think because Karna Dury didn't like fighting post sunset in special condition they could continue their relation with the chariot till midnight but in no way post that. They couldn't do Adharma na
