I remember a director talking about SRK in an interview and saying that SRK has a 4th dimension......like when u watch him on screen .....its like he comes out and touches u or talks to u standing by ur side......that is the star quality.....u don't have to be extremely good looking for that....u just have to have that 4th dimension....and this is what the superstars are made of and is lacking in the younger generation....the connection between a star and a fan.
I will post the interview if I find it.
I agree that he is better than Salman and Akshay. But I wouldn’t call him a good actor either...never connect with his acting and characters. However his charisma and screen presence are outstanding. He is the Indian Tom Cruise.

Salman I agree, but SRK combines good acting skills with screen presence. You cannot equate the two. SRK has his roots in theatre, and he comes across as a finely-honed actor. SRK in Chak De beats everyone. Some people feel he hams, but I disagree.
Yeah he has that rare combination of good acting skills and star power. If only he didn’t go overboard with steroids and his fitness. That greek god image (and his awkward personality) was a real hindrance to his career. He should have been waaaaayyyy more successful considering his potential.

You can be an average talent in Bollywood and get away with it. But absolutely no compromise on screen-presence or star quality or whatever you choose to call it. All the successful stars have it in spades.Even among the older stars,I wouldn't call Shammi Kapoor or Jackie Shroff the best of actors. But there's this level of magnetism and sheer confidence with which they move which makes it impossible to look away. Sheer good looks have nothing do with it.

True that! SRK is so witty, charming and has the gift of gab. He has a magnificent screen presence, which remains unmatched like the likes of Big B , Dilip kumar.
Take the example of Yukta Mookhey who was extremely gorgeous, beautiful and was the Miss world, but she couldn't click in movies because she din't have the elusive star quality or rather had a bland screen presence. She couldn't make it big due to the lack thereof.
In comparison with her take, a Vidya Balan or a Rani Mukherjee, they were never exceptionally gorgeous looking or were tall according to the bollywood standards but they had the "IT" factor and the moment they were on silver screen, they overshadowed everyone else with their larger than life screen presence. Acting is not just about looks in particular but one needs to have that unique selling point to make it big.
