There's always been a high pitched soprano singers like Shreya before. If I had to name them from decades it would be:

The Classical Sopranos

Lata Ji, Anuradha/Alka/Sadhana then Shreya...now Palak, Monali etc

Sunidhi fit more into the vibrant or dance number categories but with lots of talent and variety of singing. So that would be:

Geeta Dutt, Asha Ji, Poornima, then Sunidhi...after her no one's had that style and talent.

Sunidhi was the first mainstream husky voice, none of the previous singers had heavy voices.

Salma Agha, not really.

Usha Uthup deserved much more recognition. Her voice would have been much more appreciated in today's times. But she is a different league, sorta like Nina Simone.

Shreyas voice can get too shrill

Shreya has been equally successful in peppy no.I find her very versatile.Dil dooba(Khakee) Tumhe jo Maine dekha,Gori Gori (Mai Hoon Na)Dhoom Tana from (OSO) Ishq Haye(JWM)

O Balma(Khiladi786) have all been big hits.N there r many more.Yes Sundhi’s voice is more suited for some nos but that can be said for Shreya’s nos too.I can never imagine Sunidhi creating same effects to songs like Mere Dholna Sun or a Piyu bole or even a Bairi Piya.
