Actually they showed Nakul defeated but when he got to kill him, Shalya reminded him of the paap of Mama vadh so Yudi and Shalya went into a spear duel and killed Shalya.

Moreover there's a saying that there's a demon inside Shalya which used to grow bigger if his opponent becomes aggressive. So Krishna suggested that Yudi should fight with Shalya as he was a patient person. So with his patience, Yudi killed the demon inside Shalya and thus killed Shalya.

Don't know about its truth.
