Chapter 5 – The guilt of our decisions
“What nonsense main regular checkup karwata hoon we do all the tests, she is a 1 day old kid aap log kya bol rahin hain.”
“Mr Bajaj aisa hota hai it is uncommon but sometimes it happens and there is nothing that you could have done and there was no way to know and for now we are going to do need to do more tests.”
“Ok then do the tests what are we waiting for and then what do we need to do?”
“Liver transplant, we only need a part of the liver. Usually parents ke match kar jate hain ya phir family members ke.”
“ok so lets us get all tested. I don’t care what comes in test results I want to be prepared. Prerna ki family hain yahan aap unke samples le lijiye. Mrs bajaj ko koi kuch nahin batayega. But take her sample. With that agar unka nahin hota hain aap donor khojna suru karenge abhi se. Is that clear? Aur mujhe update dijiye har minute ki.”
Mr Bajaj came out and with shaky legs moved towards prerna’s room and saw her happily talking to her family and snuggling with Kukki from the door. He sat near the bench outside the room and tried to grasp what was happening. Unknowingly his legs moved towards NICU and he saw Sneha through the glass. She was sleeping and the moment he saw her all his determination to not do this and be strong died away. He had tears in his eyes.She was connected to all tubes and wires and Mr Bajaj just wanted to snatch her from the pain and hide her in his arms. Just then a nurse came.
“Excuse me aap aise NICU main nahin aa sakte hain.” But Mr Bajaj was looking at Sneha directly and it was almost as if he couldn’t hear what she was saying.
“father hain aap”
“Yes. I want to be near her?” wiping the tears
“I am sorry but you can’t” A look from him and the nurse stopped midway
“I can allow you to touch through the gloves are and just for a min. But please be very very careful, wires are connected”
“Thank you” she asked him to sanitise his hands and then showed the gloves area from where he needs to enter his hands inside the incubator.
Mr Bajaj caressed the baby hands and face slightly as if she knew it was him, she moved and Mr Bajaj got scared and tried to take his hand out. The nurse was surprised that whether he was the same man who had almost demanded from her that he let her see the baby and now he was scared of even touching the baby.
“Its ok she is fine; you can keep your hand a bit more. I think she recognises you.”
“Kuch nahin hoga aapko kuch bhi nahin. Aap Papa ki strong beti hain champ hain Mujhe pata hain you don’t need someone else to fight for you aap yaha ladiye aur aapke papa aapko bahar se support karenge. After all we are a team aren’t, we? Waise bhi aapki mom aur di ki aur dadagiri nahin seh paonga.” And she moved a bit again and Mr Bajaj laughed through the teary eyes and then again, his face was set. Mr Bajaj was ready to sit there for a lifetime but he had arrangements to make. He knew that if things got worse,he might have to call someone and what that might lead to. He wanted to be prepared. Just then he looked at his back and saw Prerna on a wheelchair followed By Kukki.
“Kya kya hua hain? Haan Kya hua hain? Kuch puch rahin hoon main. Sneha theek hai na.”
Rishab relaxed her and took her and Kukki to the room. Once in the room he made sure that Prerna was relaxed and he sent Kukki home with Shivani and Veena who would be staying with her today and then he explained everything. Prerna was stunned and then she looked at Rishab.
“They are wrong the tests are wrong they are mad,she cannot be born with cancer aap kahin aur lekar chaliye use, jhooth bol rahin hian, pagal hain sab. Who meri bachi hain mujhe pata hota agar use kuch hoga agar” And he looked at Rishab his face set and it hit her that the man who was not scared of anything in his life was scared? The helplessness and guilt on his face broke her minute by minute as they kept looking at each other for don’t know how much time. She cannot do this not now not in front of him.Wiping he tears and composing herself she went near him hugged him and he held onto her as if holding on to his dear life.
“Woh woh theek ho jayegi, who aapki champ hain she will be fine and for now we don’t know if we need to worry. Right Rishab?” and they both cried and tried to assure each other that it will be ok. It was almost as if Rishab fell in love with her all over again to see her ability to read him so well and care for him. He was filled with pride for this woman who he loved with all his heart, in the worst situation when he should be assuring her and here,she was assuring him. As if Prerna understood
“Aap hi se to sikha hain aur apne Rishab ka dil padh sakti hoon, mujhse jyada aap dare hui hain yeh Mr Bajaj wali mask mere samne nahin chalti”
Almost in a whisper Rishab said - “If I could main sab kuch de do har Khushi but she is just born and I am an invalid for her I am of no use. It has never hit me so hard that I am not her”
“You are her father aap hai uske pitaah suna aapne. Waise uske aate hi meri aur Kukki ki importance kam ho gayi, hame bataya bhi nahin akele milne chale gaye aur ab Baap beti milkar mujhse baat chupane lage hain. Aapne dekha na use Kaise kaise dekhti hain who?”
“Bilkul aapki jaise shorter version Iti se hain itne chote chote haath aakhein. Dar lagta hain chunga to dard hoga use.” and theyboth started to laugh.
“Main use kuch nahin hone dunga. I promise.”
“I know I know, sirf mere jaise dekhti hain par strength aapki hain she is a fighter. Remember that. “
“hmm ” and Rishab nodded and composed himself.
“Aap apna dhyan rakhiye mujhe Mr Moloy basu se milne jana hain” Prerna looked at him questioningly.
“Agar zaroorat padi we need to be prepared.”
“I know but agar zaroorat padi. Waise bhi Rishab who kabhi nahin manege, Jis aadmi ne use apni bachi nahin mana woh”
“Meri wajah se hain sab meri”
“Nahin Anurag ko jhooth pe vishwas aapne nahin diliya uske apne dimaag ne diliya uske sak ne diliya. Isme aapne kuch nahin kiya aur isliye hum abhi nahin jayenge we will wait for reports. “
“Chahe who mane ya na mane it doesn’t matter he will do this. Mere action ke consequences who bachi nahin chukayegi. Mere galti ki sazza who bachi nahin no kabhi nahin. Don’t worry Main kuch rash rahin karunga don’t worry Sneha’s life matters right now, that is all that matters right now”
“It’s not your fault it’s not and Mujhe pata hain, youwill handle everything but Rishab nahin aur waise bhi agar baat sirf Basu family ki hoti I would be ok but ab wahan Komolika hain she could use this opportunity against us, agar problem nahin bhi who create kar degi main janti hu use. So no”
“I wish that you never see that side of me par Komolika ne Mr Bajaj kya hain who usne ab tak dekha nahin hain aur agar zaroorat padimain bahut ache se…”
“Main sirf itna keh rahi hoon ki jis road per jane ki zaroorat hi nahin padegi waha par jane ke bare main kyun soche hum. Let us wait for the results and I have seen that side of yours that is why I know ki agar who time aaya koi kuch nahin kar payega.”
“Phir bhi dar nahin lagta mujhse”
“Mr Bajaj ko bhi dekha hain aur Rishab ko bhi,Rishab ka pyaar itna jyada hain ki Mr Bajaj ka kuch dekhai hi nahin deta”
Just then Mr Mehra came into the room.
“I am sorry main aata hoon thodi der main”
“Its ok Mr Mehra. Mr Bajaj must be waiting for the report on Basu Publication and Siddhant Choubey” Prerna gave a faint smile as to caught you.
“Aap rest kijiye. Thodi der main reports aa jayegi and we will see what to do”
“Mujhe Sneha ko dekhna hain ek baar. Please ek baar”Just when the nurse came and wanted to give medication.
“Aapki tabiyat thodi theek ho jaaye phir le chalunga I promise. Next time hum charo ek saath milenge ek dusre se” and with that he hugged her and then left from there.
“Mr Mehra kya pata chala.”
“The biggest weakness the investigation of Chemical Gas plant that took the life of 100 workers. Galti Mr choubey ki thi but he has bribed all officials and investigation will not show him as culprit. If this happens his career will be destroyed and that is what he is waiting on”
The doctor called Mr Bajaj. Sneha had liver cancer and needed a transplant and none of them are a match not even Mrs Bajaj.
He knew what needed to be done. Mr Bajaj assured Prerna and went to meet the basus. Prerna wanted to come but he flat out refused saying that he will handle.
Rishab Bajaj had fought with everything and everyone destiny world basu himself and made himself a family and now he might be the verge of losing it all. He trusted Prerna with all his heart and he knew that Prerna loved him and had chosen him no matter what Mr Basu did but Maybe it was someone up there telling him that you actually cannot fight the destiny and fine but why use that littlegirl for it. And They Why the last 6 months of happiness? Why these dreams of future of a family? But he cannot do this not now only Sneha and Prerna matter right now.
Prerna and Rishabh's conversation is heartbreaking. He feels he is not of any value as he can't save her life. Poor guy he is feeling wo father hi nahi hai 💔
But Prerna makes him realise that he is wrong.
Best part is Rishabh is preparing himself to even face basus if needed but it's Prerna who is stopping him to wait till the reports are out.
Just like I feared, Bajaj needs Anurag to save his little girls life who is just born. But uske liye he needs to tell Anurag that he is the biological father.. why?? 😒
Anurag bina kisi condition ke help karega kya.. agar usne kiya bhi to kya komolika karne degi? What price will Bajaj pay for saving his daughter's life? Ya achanak se koi aur external donor mil jayega.
I am yet to understand the Choubey connection here. Is Bajaj planning to use it against them and that has something to do with Sneha's transplant?

Ohh no. Reports are out and it's confirmed that she has liver cancer. Nobody is a match not even Prerna, the mother. Ab Rishabh has to ask Anurag, agar wo matching donor hua to kya wo agree karega itni asani se.😒
