I have heard reasons of other people watching shows of other countries rather than their own as they find their's boring. Americans love Turkish shows as well and Korean ones too.

I watched Vampire Diaries which was so popular but found it nonsensical with all types of creatures and then wondered what's the difference between our Naagin and VD 😆

You can never know what people can like but I guess everyone likes a change rather than the shows they normally watch. Sanaya is quite famous in Turkey and her shows are being watched with subtitles too. But people liking SNS is something weird lol

YHM still had some story but SNS was just was so melodramatic.Ekta's pardes mein hain mera dil also topped in UK where as the show didn't work in India. About sanaya and drashti i know they are quiet famous there as their shows IPK and mb are popular there.

I started enjoying PKYEK after the first 13 episodes. Otherwise I was comparing it to Twilight 🤣

MJHT was really good, just the 3 year leap sequence was very unrealistic and draggy. After Star ONE I never enjoyed any Indian youth show so I switched to American TV.

I have stopped watching show on tv long back.I started watching Kaha hum kaha tum but after marriage it turned crap too .

Channel V had good youth based shows. But it also shut down sadly.

Btw any idea on why everything that is deemed "high school stuff" in the West is considered "college level" in India? For egee would never have students having sex in high school shows on Indian tv; on the other hand, MJHT showed college students Samrat and Gunjan having sex.

i never watched channel V programs but i heart about few.Was not kaise yeh yarihyan was channel V??

I never enjoyed Channel V shows. I tried to watch them and even MTV shows.

I guess the mature content depends on the age of the characters as well as the cultural differences.

Indians are very taboo when it comes to sex and kissing and stuff. The first time I saw it openly on TV was the MTV show Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan.

High schoolers are 17-18 (same as Junior College in India) and Indian makers like to show sex, if any, between 18+ adults on screen. Also to not promote premarital, underage and casual sex (which can be wrongly justified as love later). Makers ened to be responsible, specially during the generation of Nibba and Nibbis.

Also about Samrat and Gunjan, yes the makers showed them having sex but the idea of romance in MJHT was very different than TVD or PLL. It was one sex scene compared to the multiple in American shows. Lol sometimes I feel it was a trp gimmick. 😂

Indian shows focus on romance without too much PDA or touching, whereas West TV show sex as a way to show the characters loving each other.

When it comes to this notion, I prefer our TV. No way am I a prude but imo getting physical should be special and thats a bond u should share with someone special.

I loved Channel V shows, especially Sadda Haq. It also featured the teen crime reality show Gumraah. It was one gritty, hard-hitting series.

The age group for high school is mostly 14-18 I guess. In my school, it started from 6th standard.

It's very common for underage teens to have sex, especially 15 age onwards. I don't mind seeing that as long as the emotional connect is shown in ample amount side-by-side. I really love Riverdale, for instance.

Bold underlined: Oh c'mon, premarital sex has always been shown freely in our movies and shows. 70s movies often showed women becoming single mothers and shunned by society. It was a common trope. Even Ekta shows had premarital sex and one night stands aplenty. That's not the issue.

Gumraah gave me nightmares a couple to times.

I know its very common amongst teens to get physical at a young age. But our older movies and Ekta's world were very fantasy driven. No one was nuts enough to actually do what they saw. We pretty much knew its all fake. Except the one time when the Nation was mourning Mihir's death. Also if they showed premarital sex, then something bad were to happen to either one of the characters and the moral of the story was, like u said in @bold...dont do it.

But the newer shows were more relatable, the actors looked like college students and even tho there wasn't much college stuff in it, it was still pretty realistic. Combine that with the power of social media and forums, it is more important to explain the importance of physical relationships. After all, life's not a TV show.

That's true, but at the same time, the ones engaging in pre-marital sex were mainly the leads, and as we know the female lead is always portrayed as a sort of sati savitri on Kekta shows (except recent ones). So I wouldn't say that pre-marital sex was exactly demonised on Indian television. Often it was done by the glorious lead characters.

Gumrah was one of a kind show. Some episodes were extremely disturbing to digest. I think it could be compared to Crime Patrol or even Law and Order (SVU).
